I kept the stock wheel size with my aftermarket wheels, and accelerate fairly slowly from traffic lights (mainly because there is another red light 50-100 ft away). I do 70 on the highway, and get around 30mpg highway.

tC has easily less air resistance than either gen xB.

I have about 17,000 miles on my 2011 xB 5-speed. The MPG reading has never dipped below 30 MPG. This time of year it stays around 33 MPG with a wide range of trips; city, hilly country, and 65 mph interstate.

Sounds good! But if you really want to learn how it's doing, calculate it by hand (elapsed miles divided by fill-up gallons -- fill-up to fill-up ). Don't over-fill, just fill to pump shut-off or next nearest tenth gallon.

I have a tC and a ScanGauge II in the car and when I take short trips say less than 5 miles I only get about 16 mpg. When I take the freeway and use it for like an hours trip i usually get about 28 mpg with the A/C on and without about 34 mpg. It all depends on how you drive and the weather conditions. My best was a 39 mpg avg with an avg speed of 65 mph. My girlfriend drove my car the other day and actually averaged 41 mpg with an average speed of 74 mph. Remember that this was done on the freeway with about an hours ride and little traffic. If your serious about your gas mileage then get the ScanGauge II and pay attention to it and adjust your driving habbit. You will be hitting those high numbers soon.

thanks to all the TC guys for the input but one thing to remember is that the TC is way better aerodynamically designed than either gen of the Xb like mentioned above....so with this said not everything that works for the TC will have the same effect on our XB's due to the shape of them and I truly think that with the odd design we have to have anywhere from 26-30 mpgs is great being we push against the wind rather than cut thru it...jus my opinion

Ok well if the gas mileage is really bothering you then you can scoure the internet on ways to improve gas mileage, deal with what you have, or buy a tC ;).

Good idea. Nothing wrong with an xB. It's not like your getting terrible gas mileage. You could drive a Mustang GT as a daily driver and complain about your 15 mpg everyday. At least thats what my friend says he gets. Plus your saving more money in the long haul if you just stick with the xB.

Actually, the xB2 design is pretty aerodynamic with its low .32 drag coefficient. The problem is just that the frontal area is much greater than a tC and so the end resistance is significantly higher. Biggest tricks to achieving good MPG are drive easy and steady, anticipate stops, take it easy out of stops, avoid driving above 65mph, coast when conditions permit, minimize short trips, and keep the tires properly inflated.

Can't really compare a tc to the xb because of the wind drag. The xb has a flatter front end than the tc making is less aero dynamic.

I'm going to vegas next week and I will try driving 65-70 mph on the way there and I'll see what I get.

What are most of you guys getting per tank?

I rarely fill up at empty therefor I can't tell you what I get. I know at half tank I'm about 110-120 miles. On long road trip (100% highway) I can hit 150 miles at half tank.

if i stop filling up when the pump shuts off. i usually get to 330mi. when the gas light comes on. my commute consists of a 140mi round trip on a hilly missouri interstate.

FWIW -- there's a healthy reserve in the xB2 tank, so you probably have a range in the neighborhood of 400 miles.

Yeah, I was thinking that the reserve is pretty big because the spec says that the tank is 14 gallon but even when I fill up at almost empty I only fill close to 12 gallons not even 12 gallons. Why does the light comes up so fast?

I'm too scared to go further.

Probably as a preemptive measure to keep people from driving around on 1 gallon of gas regularly, and destroying their fuel pumps.

And to make people panic early on road trips to fill up so they don't get stranded on the side of a random highway.

FWIW -- The tank does indeed hold 14 gallons, so if 12 gets you over 330mi, you do the math on the last two gallons.

PS. I suspect the healthy reserve is meant to minimize the likelihood of you running out of gas before refilling.
