Does anyone else ahve this problem
Sometimes it happens immediatly, sometimes it takes a minute or two.
I had my fiance sit in it in the driveway holding the brake and verified the noise was coming from the hood. Seems the hood has a little play with the latch.

Yeah, I noticed the hood has some play when I was waxing it. I didn't have to put much pressure at all and it would move enough that I could hear the catch and latch clunking.

It's never done it while the car is running though. At least not that I've heard.

yes, thought it was my engine, took it in they said it was something with the hood, they adjusted it and no problems since... wasn't a big deal, was having other stuff done so had them check it and they fixed it

Although I don't have that particular problem with my xB2, reading it reminded me that the USA Today's Scion 08 xB review article mentioned the same problem with their test car:

Quote: • Some rattling and buzzing from the hood on the regular-production test car was due to incorrectly adjusted hood stops, and easily was fixed, Toyota said.

FWIW.

The rubber hood stops on mine weren't properly adjusted either. Turned 'em up a bit and problem solved.

just wanted to check in on my thread and followup.
the xb went in for the sirius install and I had them adjust the hood. There is no longer any movement in it like there was before. I could push down on it a bit. Now I cant. So if anyone has this issue, just have it adjusted.

Holy crap. My Gen 1 does this. Our cars DO have something in common! :D

If anyone else is too lazy to get it fixed, just pop it into neutral. Mine's been doing this for two years with no ill effects.

Happy rattling!

How exactly can you adjust the bushings or whatever to stop this rattle?

I just got it today and wonder what I can do to stop it, or does the dealer have to look at it?

There are two big black rubber bump stops on the left and right side when you open the hood. Just turn them counter-clockwise a half turn; if that doesn't stop the rattling, turn them another half turn... you're done, now close the hood and go for a drive!

Ahh thought those were them. I accidentally turned them clockwise to hope to raise them up, but I see I went the wrong way haha. Will have to try again ;)

Thanks for the heads up!

Had the same problem. took it in and they attempted a fix, something to do with the airbox I was told.

Then I got home and it started again. A day or two later saw this post, tried it and haven't noticed it since.

Glad it took care of the problem compton, it's probably the easiest fix for any of the minor issues that can come up on a new car. One full 360 degree turn raises the bump stop about 1mm.

Invertalon, did you ever turn yours the correct direction and fix your rattle?
