Default Huge favor to ask to 2nd Gen XB owners...

I need to bring back some stuff and I have access to an XB through ZipCar. I need to know what are the interior dimensions of the XB with the seats down.

In that I mean height, width and length in inches. I am hoping to bring home my plasma tv and furniture (though i probably have to make two trips). The plasma is the issue, its got to be kept upright so its a total b*tch Both wont fit in my friends car. Otherwise I got to go to one of the car rental places and pick up a truck or something.

Thanks a lot!

How far are you driving? I had the same issue when I bought my 50" plasma, it didnt fit because of the size of the box. It was closing time so I set it flat and drove home (about 5 mins). No problems with my plasma tv after 3 years.

I am about 8 miles from the store. I think the box height is 36" and the length is 55", (49.x is the tv). I wonder if it will fit in an diagonal inside the car

if you support the glass panel enough (with something soft) you can lay it down and transport it.

I used to work for CompUSA and sold tv's. Plasmas can now be laid flat. The new cells on the inside of the tv are more resilient and less-likely to leak the phosphorous gases. You still can't turn them upside down though like you can with an LCD or LED tv.

Rear hatch opening is:
35" wide at the bottom where it is flat (before bottom curved corners).
43" wide above bottom curved corners.
32" tall at left & right sides just inside bottom curved corners.
32.5" tall at center of open hatch.

These are from an old thread:

About 55" between the rear doors.
About 39" wide at the narrowest place on the rear floor, between the plastic covers over the shocks.
About 51" wide halfway up (between the floor and the ceiling) just inside the rear hatch.

I hope that gives you what you need to know.

I used to sell tvs at best buy, newer plasmas are ok to lay down as long as its on the their back and not for long period of time. Just try to keep the ride gentle.

All plasmas are fine to lay down or even turn upside down if you want, the only concern with laying them flat is breaking the glass panels, the internal cells are sealed and do not leak out gases. If you drive carefully and don't hit any major sized pothole at stupid speeds you'll be fine. In the box it is actually well packed so you can just lay the box down in the back you drive it home. I brought my Fujitsu 50" home laying flat in the back with no box and it was fine, the 60" I had brough over in the work delivery truck just due to the size of the box and TV.

As good as the Toaster is, if you're moving a lot of stuff, I'd recommend renting a moving van. Tons more room, easier to load/unload and you don't have the hassle of making 2 or more likely, 3 or 4 trips moving your stuff (furniture always takes more space then you think).

Looks like it wont fit, so I'll be renting a pickup this weekend to move it home.

Thanks a lot for all that hard work!

See??? THATS WHY I didn't buy a pick-up and got my Working Toaster instead. With a p/u, I'd have to use it for work on the weekdays, and then everyone else will want to use it on the weekends (with me driving and lifting and packing and moving and going up stairs with big heavy bookcases....). Never get asked to help move in my Toaster.

Newer plasmas or not, I didn't risk it my first ever thousand dollar investment. I was super paranoid just watching the BB guys use a hand truck to wheel my tv out!
