In the market for a manual 2011....
The only problem is I am not yet comfortable driving a stick. I have messed around a little on my boyfriend's 93 chevy truck, and I get the idea, but I've never done it by myself. Do you think it's okay to make such a purchase even though I'm not sure what I'm doing yet? And if I do, do you think I could mess up the transmission while learning?

Thanks!
Thanks!
^^ My case is similar to that. I bought my car a year ago and couldn't even test drive it. I stalled it a block from the dealership when I drove it home. I'm pretty good now. Get one, it's a lot of fun, you feel more connected to the vehicle and it won't take much time at all before you can grab gears like a pro.
Test drive the automatic version to make sure that you like the car.
Then buy the manual with a partner who knows how to drive a stick. So, when you purchase your car, and if your boyfriend is willing, bring him along to drive it home, and then practice driving on your own.
The worst thing that can happen is stalling out in an intersection, which is why I recommend having someone drive it home for you so that you can practice in your neighborhood or some other secluded area.
Manual is all about timing. You'll have to learn the timing until it becomes natural to you, or second-nature.

You won't damage much of anything, except your pride. Expect to stall out a few time and then you'll get the feel for it. As suggested just take someone with you for pick up that can drive it back then practice in a deserted area to get it down.
The xb2 is NOT an easy vehicle to perfect the manual transmission. I had been driving stick for 6 years before I got mine and I had a few hiccups taking off from a stand still in the beginning. People who I let drive it don't like the high clutch engagement, it does take some time to get use to.

I learned to drive stick by first reading about the mechanics of it (understand how it works) and then I took a drive in a manual shift car I was inheriting. I stalled once or twice, and then I was OK. If you understand how it works, then your brain can help you make the transition. If something goes wrong (clutch pushed in too late, or not far enough, or let out too quickly, or wrong gear), then your brain can tell you exactly what happened and you just apply the fix. If you focus on what you're doing and take your time, then you'll pick it up real fast. And remember, even long experienced manual shift drivers occasionally stall
.
Neither did I, that's why I lowered my clutch pedal and engagement point. MUCH better now

same thing happen to me. My best friend gave me 3 lessons in his accord. While my cousin was in China, i took her Subaru for few practice at night.
Then i went to pick my manual tc, i stalled once on the way back from the dealership. I was nervous when the cop was next to me at the light.
I said go for it!! Get that stick shift box.
