Default New owner w/ review.

It's been 2 weeks of driving with my new BSP 2008 xB. Had a moonroof installed, and it's been great.

Here's my list of cons:
  • I never knew what torque steer was, and now I do (I'm still probably going to install that supercharger anyway.)
  • Speaking of torque steer, I can feel the steering kickback.
  • I've already found out what the limits are of the OEM speakers.
  • The roof doesn't feel reinforced, so it deflects when opening/closing doors - only made worse with the install of a moonroof. (But heck, I love the moonroof anyway.)
  • The AUX input doesn't sound good at all.
  • I don't like that a lot of functions are accessed with the same button (clock, mpg, mpg average, etc.).
Here's my list of pros:
  • The xB goes 0-30 in 3 seconds, so it's a real kick to drive it around the hills really fast.
  • It actually handles really well around those curves, so you can sneak up on unsuspecting BMWs.
  • Fully loaded.
  • The stares.
  • Everyone wanted to see my car @ work.
  • My condo has a tight parking spot with a concrete column, so having those folding side mirror makes it a lot easier to get in and out. The person opposite me, in his Honda Element, has already broken off his side mirror.
  • The new design makes the xB a refined vehicle that is just plain fun to drive around.
If only they'd introduce a hybrid version of the new xB.
Either way, I love the new xB.

You have my interest! And this is my first post. Magic word was "moonroof" I bought the silver (csm). Because my trade in was worth so much more cash value, I got a inalfa asi 925 series installed. Problems noticed are different from yours. I have only one complaint. When vented my moonroof has a sound like wires flopping arount from between the moonroof and the windshield. No roof deflection. Who made yours? And congratulations on yours Thanks!!

nice, was the 1250.00 just the moonroof, or was that including install?

yeah after watching Inconvenient Truth last night I have 2nd thoughts about not buying the Prius which I test drove and thought was a really solid car, but just a little boring and vanilla compared to the xB!

If you want to experience torque steer, drive the Mini Cooper S, especially the works version with 200hp plus. I owned a Mini S, blast to drive, but torque steer and trying to throw into a slide were definitely challenging!

It was installed through my dealer, Broadway Scion, but the actual install was done by Coach Automotive Restyling. The sunroof cost $1188 (price included installation) through the dealer, and they used Webasto Hollandia700 series, inbuilt sunroof. I'll take pics and post later.
Oh yeah, the dealer gave me a free 2-day rental, which is how long it took to install.

What do you mean by "deflects"? Are you saying it flexes? Was this the case even before the moonroof was installed? Does anyone else see their roof flexing?

I wonder if it could be the flat shape of the roof. Curved designs are inherently more sturdy.

I'm sure part of the reason the roof "deflects" is when they installed the moonroof they probably removed some of the insulation and probably a lot of the rigid headliner. At least that's what they did when they installed one in my gen 1 XB. Eventually I took the headliner down and put in sound dampening and it eliminated most of the problem. It also made the ride MUCH quieter.

I noticed this when I was letting a friend test drive my car. I was standing outside and when he closed the door, I noticed the roof kind of bounce up and down. And I don't have a moonroof. Really shows how flimsy the roof is. It was a turn off but i love this car still.

Default Fix for torque steer

Torque Biasing Differential
(Part #PTR39-21070)

Regular Price: $ 1,350.00
On Sale For: Call!

The TRD ATB Differential powers both drive wheels under nearly all conditions, instead of just one. With an ordinary open differential, standard on most cars, a lot of precious power is wasted during wheelspin under acceleration. This happens because the open differential shifts power to the wheel with less grip (along the path of least resistance). The TRD Differential, however, does just the opposite. It senses which wheel has the better grip, and biases the power to that wheel. It does this smoothly and constantly, and without ever completely removing power from the other wheel.

Hey, thanks! That'll be just before I spring for the supercharger.
