Revised MPG for XB2 on scion.com ?!
Thanks 08
The RPMs sound similar to the gen1 xB's numbers.
Too bad Toyota wouldn't create a fuel efficient version/option for us 'old farts' along side the "tuner" version for the kids. But then.....I'm supposed to be in the Toyota/Lexus demographic already
That said, I'm meeting a few of these on the road now. They really do look nice in stock trim. I've pretty much decided to stick with my original plan of aiming at 300,000 miles on the 05 while keeping my eyes open for something like my avatar suggests.

well.. sorry to revive such an old thread... but
well I just wanted to mention I'm getting an average of 29.1 MpG from my XB, it's about 60% town, 40% hwy driving so far. I'm driving auto, but i will say i'm also driving with a pretty light touch on the accelerator. but overall.. great gas milage. very happy with it

I have been getting around 24 mpg. 25 has been my best, but I have been going pretty hard at it since I got it. Almost 4,000 miles already in a little over a month! I'm thinking it should get better once I ease off and my "new car high" passes.
two trips, got 30 - 31 at 70 - 75 mph in 5th gear, in city getting average 24 - 25. Question, I have filled up a couple times when the warning light came on with only like 10 miles left on the range and only got 11.7 gallons max in it. I thought it was a 14 gallon tank but it appears it is only 12 unless I am missing something!
It's quite normal for there to be a couple gallons left in the tank when the fuel light comes on. It wouldn't be much of a warning otherwise. Every vehicle I've ever owned (that had this sort of indicator light) worked this way.
As for this not seeming to jive with the computer calculated range, this is caution on Toyota's part. The range seems more geared geared to "range to low fuel light" than "range till the tank is bone dry". The computer can only be so accurate in this case and rather than have people try to push it to the last possible mile (and run out of gas possibly) they have it zero somewhere near when the low fuel light comes on.

In the old days we called it the reserve below "E" on the gauge. It is typically a few gallons which use to mean 10-15 miles left. Seems the xB also keep a couple of gallons in reserve which means you probably have at least 50 miles left if you need it.
This has been mentioned before, but fueleconomy.gov keeps track of user-submitted mpg data. It shows the current average MPG for 2008 xB automatic to be 28.4 mpg (3 vehicle average).

I've owned my Gen2 for 2 months now, he only has 650 miles on him, I have a 2 mile commute to work with 5 stop lights...plus we use him for short trips on weekends and according to the Computer on the Dash I average just over 19mpg...
Somebody please clarify something for me because it's been bothering me ever since I bought this thing. Well, I've only had it for 4 days and my gas mileage is pretty low. It's only around 19-20ish WITH freeway driving. I only get a little over 100 miles on half of a full tank. There's about 300 miles on it. PLEASE HELP.

My last tank was 29.2 mpg (with about 50/50 city/highway). Seriously, how are you driving it? If you're not even getting within the revised mileage estimates, you must be having some serious fun.
I've taken to *not* exceeding the speed limits on the highway, as mileage seems to drop off with higher speeds. Around town I look for a decent pace (maybe speeding a little, maybe not) which minimizes unnecessary accel/decel whenever possible.

Here are my driving habbits: I try not to use the AC that much so the windows are down a lot. I use cruise control whenever i can, mainly on the freeways obviously. Bad habbits include always being the first on to go after a red light (used to have a gti) and over revving cuz I'm still not used to the high clutch. On freeways i tend to go 80 mph and when i catch myself i slow down to 75...haha. I do about half and half on the freeway and city. So is it me or the car?
Well, with the shape of this thing, speed is gonna hurt mileage more than it would with most other cars. I don't think it's entirely to blame though. I still fight the urge to be first off the light myself and I know that can hurt mileage.
How many mile do you have on it so far? I was told there is a 1000 mile break-in period. I know with my Nissans, the engines when broken-in revved more freely and seemed to get better mileage.
What sort of mileage did you get with your past vehicles? Is this a trend or is it primarily isolated to this vehicle?

It's isolated with this one. I looked at my mpg? meter and it averaged 30-35ish on the freeway. I dunno if that's any indication. Anyways, I only average around 230-ish miles on a full tank. When I bought the car, the dealship had 18" rims on the car and they're still on there till i get my 19" trd rims in. Do the rims cause the trip meter to read differently? Sorry my reply isn't really coherrent but I'm in a rush.
wow that is really bad. I just filled up around 344 miles on my trip a and still had two gallons to go (but the range said i only had 6 miles left so yeah)
I wouldnt be surprised if your car was recording miles as if it had stock tires on. Did you ask your dealer if that could happen??
How do you calculate your MPG??
Do you divide your trip A by the gallons filled? or do you read off of the gague?
Definatly stop readin the gauge if you are because that is not accurate.
If you are still getting results like this, definatly take it back because there is no way the milage would go down just because you have 18's on it.
