i have around 1k milage on my car and after a few fillups i'm seeing 22-23mpg (30percent city 70hwy). i'm a bit disappointed, but considering my other car which gets 16-17mpg mixed i'm not complaining. i pay at least 20cents a gallon less at the pump too because there's no premium fuel requirement~ woohoo~

i hope after some more breaking in the milage gets better. i still wouldn't trade my box for a civic or a corolla tho. maybe a camry.. but still~ hah

I zero out the trip meter when I fill up and divide the final miles when the tank is empty by the amount of gas I put in it. Always ends up around 230. WTF is going on?

ok then yeah you definatly should take it back. And dont believe them if they tell you that it is just because it isnt broken in yet because that is just not true. I would have them do a diagnostic on the car and see if anything in malfunctioning.

We just took an unexpected trip in my 2008 xB... Wisconsin to Minnesota to Iowa to Kansas, total 1400 miles round trip in 22 hours, set cruise at 74 almost the entire trip... averaged 43 MPH !!!!!! on the car's computer!!!!!!! I had just gotten the first oil change and we left the next morning. Sadly never saw another xB.... are they banned in those states???

yeah i guarentee you that you didnt get 43mpg on paper. the cars mpg gauge is way off. The only way to check and be sure of what you get is 'miles driven' divided by gallons filled.

Did you try that method at all on the trip??

Gen1 cars would have been rated at 26/31 under the new EPA regs, which is substantially better than the rating for the Gen2 cars ratings of 22/28. That gives the Gen1 18% better city and 11% better highway.

Why do houses always have to become divided?

Just food for thought.

dz302, you are taking it out of context. That 2 month old post by V8Goat was referring to the following post that started this thread:

Those mpg figures were indeed a mistake on Scion.com website; it has long been corrected. (Now it lists the correct EPA numbers of 22/28.)

All I know is I just filled my tank for the first time and when I calculated my MPG (not via the computer) I averaged 27mpg, and that is at least 60% city, 40% freeway. It can only get better with break-in and the MPG is already better then expected.

do you guys fill up right when the gas light come on or do you wait a while. How many gallons is left after the light comes on? 2 right? 2 gal = ~45-50 miles?

i dont think so. my gas light comes on when i have about 20-30 miles left on my range.
i dont even pay attention to the light.

When the range gets around 10-0, then i fill up. And even then i only fill it with about 12 gallons which means that i still have 2 gallons left!!

So i figure once you reach zero on the range you can still go about 40-50 miles before completely running out of gas
