scion accelating slower than usual, engine noiser, any tips?
Yah I just filled up from Mobile. It isn't listed on the site. No wonder my car after the fill up feels like ____. I was sticking with Chevron since I got the car, but I was super low on fuel and decided to go to any gas station I could find. Haha bad choice!
One other tip on gas is if you see a tanker truck at or just pulling away from the station, skip it. What happens is when they fill the underground tanks it stirs up all the junk at the bottom of the tanks. That's what I was told anyway.

Hi all,
I can tell you some gas makes all the difference. I also own a RAV4 -V6 as a camper towing vehicle. I travel a lot to canoe/ kayaking events all over the east coast, and I find when towing, the gas I buy makes a huge difference in power, and mileage. Shell /Mobile works best for my RAV , and I can feel the power difference just after filling up with them. Unfortunately the area I live in has companies that are not on the list, and would I have to drive way out of my way to get them, just not smart to get the extra edge. I generally run 89 octane instead of 87 when I use the local gas for the RAV. So far, the local gas works well for the wife's XB.
I thought the computers were suppose to adjust for fuel grades, and maybe they don't adjust enough, and that's what we feel. Ethanol blended gases I hear from other drivers cause problems for some cars?

I use Shell.... works great for me
so far no real problems... only the a pillar creak but im over that one
ill have em fix it at 5,000 I guess... if they dont decide to tear apart my car to try to fix it...
So have we decided this is most lickly a gas issue or is that just something it could be?
exxon mobile uses the same gas right?
the other people with this problem what gas did they use?
maybe its not gas?

I know I have been using BP exclusively since I got my scion and notice I have slightly rough idle. I can see my GPS vibrate when im stopped somewhere!
My next tank ill do Shell and see if it helps, if not, it is just a normal idle I guess!

Gas could be a big issue. I use chevron and the reason being, it does have addition addatives that other gasolines don't. And when cars get there mpg numbers they are all running chevron gasoline. All major companys use this gas because it makes the car look better. And i have never had any problems with any of my cars except when i tried switching fuels and i noticed a difference in the way it idled as well as exceleration. So hopefully your car just has "Bad Gas" ;)
just want to put it out there...+1 on the rough idle. (note: it seems to only happen while in drive with the brake engaged aka at a stop light...kinda cycles in and out as well not constant vibrations but 15-30 secs on 15-30 off. I do use my AC alot but not sure if thats the cause...can hear a difference too)
Im gonna give a different gasoline a try this weekend while road tripping, but if its still there next week its going into the dealer for sure.

thats normal for a 4 cylinder they all do that when idle. the more you drive it the better it gets.. i lifted my hood stops and the vibration noise went down. there are a few thigs to make the vibration less.. like better gas and different oil... ect.. but it will just happen... every 4 cylinder iv even been in vibrated at idle exspecially with the A/C on ..
i have noticed a lil vibration when in park when the fans kick on. just a lil one and it goes away when the shut off, i have 4000 miles on mine, no problems! knock on wood. im a long way away from home. im in texas working and i live in ny!!!
I just started to get the rough idle while in drive with the brake engaged. It's definitely not normal. Before I take it in, I'd love to hear if anyone else had the problem and what the solution was. It's always better to show up armed with information. It lessens the probability of the dealer saying, "It's normal" when it is clearly not.
Thanks!
Thanks!
For a car that has only 650 miles on it, differentiating "normal" from "abnormal" is probably a bit premature only because the car has so little history. I would keep an eye on it but not worry about it just yet. Give it a few weeks to see if things change. And yes, change gas stations to see if it makes a difference.
Another thought on gasoline: in the Chicago area, the EPA mandates different blends for summer and winter. I have a 6-year-old VW GTI that runs rougher and loses about 3 mpg every winter when the refineries switch over to winter blend. Does So Cal have anything like a winter blend?
One last thing: I saw that Top-Tier website. Sorry, but it sounds to me like a big load of marketing mumbo-jumbo. Looks like a classic marketing ploy, done to establish some credibility vs. other gasoline brands. It's 2% substance, 98% BS.

Rough idle and poor acceleration are not normal and don't have anything to do with the break in process. I have 7000 miles on my 08 xb and I haven't had any problems, even when changing brands of gasoline. I normally use Speedway 87 octane and it works fine. I have also used bp and mobil, with no difference in the way my car ran. The only thing I did see was that a tank of bp gas didn't last as long, probably due to more additives that bp has in their gas (that invigorate stuff they talk about in their commercials, basically detergent).
I would take your car in to get it checked out.

I have been using Shell 91 octane just recently, my last 3 fill ups and i have noticed a difference in fuel economy and overall performance. I use to use ARCO before I also use 0 20w oil ...just my to pennies.
My xb has gotten a bit louder, love that vacuum leak sound, brakes are grippier, however intermediate aceleration the tranny seems to hang in 3rd vs going directly to 4th. I normally accelerate at 2 grand and let the tranny do the work and once it gets into 4th give it a bit more to get up to highway speed.
