Default Taller gearing for the slushbox

Hi everyone! I have an automatic 2012 Scion Xb that gets 26.9 mpg average. So I’m looking to improve my fuel mileage and wondering if anyone knows of compatible transaxles with taller gearing that could swap in with little modification. The auto does well but if I could reduce engine speed by at least 500 rpm that’d be amazing.

Hi,

Sorry I cannot help you with this on a 2nd gen. I know for the first gen the toyota echo has a taller last gear which helps with RPMs and fuel consumption. If I had to guess, since the AR-FE (6 cylinder engine) kinda drops onto the same mounts as the xB, most likely a 6 cylinder transmission will work.

Good luck with your search and let us know if you find the solution!

You can try swapping the U250E transmission in. It's the 5 speed version of the U241E that the xB comes with. Final drive ratio is 3.391 compared to 2.740 for stock. Not sure if the computer will play well with it though.
