Default Thinking about buying an xB - backup light question

Hey, I'm strongly considering buying a new xB but I had a concern about the single backup light. Just to clarify, is that the only light that comes on when backing up? I seem to remember someone in the dealership saying something to that effect, but it seems really strange to me that the brake lights wouldn't come on too. My main concern about this would be that other drivers would be unaware of how the Scion works and not realize I'm backing up.

Any help would be appreciated!

It is the only light that comes on, but if you back out slowly with your feet partially on the brake, you can have the brake lights light up too.

Not sure what your skill set is but you could do something like this click here

or you could replace the bulb with a brighter one, there are a bunch of them out there.

Just don't let something like a little ole reverse light turn you away from getting one. They are great cars, I have had mine for a little over a week now and I love it.

uhh... the brake lights turn on only when you have the brake pedal depressed...

that's for every car out there man...

no other car will have its brake lights just turn on if you put the car in reverse.

he means stepping on the brakes slightly while reversing, making the brake lights come on for better visual of the car for others that might not see the single reverse backup light.

white lights on the rear of a car = reverse lights, no matter what

I still don't see what the big fuss is about this, when I had one for like 3 months, it was fine, now that I've had it shaved off for about 12 months, its also been fine

I will be rewiring my rumion tails when I get the chance but still...shouldn't be a big deal

the back up is pretty bright just by itself when your in reverse. You can always switch our the oem for an led also. I havent had any problems with other drivers not seeing my reverse light.

Same here. I will hit the brakes for extra light or ride them, but the one eye light does fine.

To the best of my knowledge, there has never been a single documented incident of an accident or damage resulting from insufficient rear illumination from the xB2's single backup light.

In other words, FUGHEDDABOUT IT.

Seriously, give your fellow drivers a little credit: even if they don't notice the light, they will probably notice the 2000 pounds of car moving backwards toward them. If they don't notice that, they're pretty much guaranteed to hit you anyway.

So, no worries: it's a non-issue. Take care!

My xb weights a little over 3000 lbs, yours must be a special edition or filled with hellium.

Most people have sense enough to allow an suv to back out or merge lanes.

Yeah, mine is a special edition that they only made from 2004 - 2006. Sorry, I keep forgetting the xB2 is such a porker. Though I'm curious: exactly what SUV are you referring to? I thought we were talking about xB's.

Anyway, that was precisely my point: people aren't going to slam into you just because you have one light instead of two. "Oh, sorry I hit you doing 80! If only there had been TWO sources of illumination on the back of your car, I would have seen you coming!"

Hence: it's a non-issue.

I towed a stationwagon behind my tacoma from VA to PA, I ended up with no trailer lights and the battery died in the car being towed, so it was dark. No one rear ended it , side swipe, etc.

I referr to my xb2 as an suv that gets 30mpg. Do you have an suv that gets 30mpg??? Everyone tells me no to that answer. I am driving my xb this week and its fun messing with my co workers, most of which drive an suv and want to know about mines.

If you want others to see you while backing up...Turn on your E-Flashers.. I do it all the time!! Works like a charm.. The button is so very convientely located, turning them off & on is a snap!!.. good luck... jh

If you hit your brakes when you're backing up, that means your coming to a stop or slowing down which could be decieving to someone watching you back up. You can see the reverse light just fine when you are backing up, If you're really that worried then you might want to buy something different.
