I smelled the same thing when I got mine last month. It seems to have diminished now, but every now and then it comes back.

could be just a 'new engine' type of smell.......

when i test drove an xD it smelled terrible after and the guy said it was because i was the first person that ever drove it...

I would think it shouldn't be terribly strong though - i do get an occasional 'hot' type of smell...but i'm am attributing this to a brand new engine/clutch...hopefully nothing major!

I'll bet you you are smelling coolant. It has a kind of sweet smell to it. It is a common problem fro what I am reading about the XB's. I posted a question in another catagory and got a good answer from another member on here. I bet it is some sort of pressure relief valve for the cooling system blowing off coolant vapors.

If the car is BRAND new, it might be some of the rust inhibitor burning off that gets sprayed on certain mechanical components. Every new car I bought has had a similar "burning" smell to it for the first several hundred miles, and has never been a problem. Not sure if that's what's going on here, but if you're really worried, put your warranty to good use, and have the dealership take a look at it, or take a nose to it.

When I used to do engine break-ins at my previous jobs every new car made that "burning" smell.

Default Weird smell

I too have smelled this smell, kind of like the brakes are "burning". This strange smell happens when I'm putting the car in Reverse and when I'm sitting in traffic. My emergency brake seems "loose", and I'm wondering if the Brake Assist is faulty.

Mine had the same smell for about two weeks. I asked the dealership and they told me it was somehting they put on the engine at the factory and that the smell would go away. I haven't ever had a car that smelled this bad. In fact I don't recall any of my other cars having a smell at all other than new car smell in the interior. They assured me that it was nothing to worry about and just like they said, the smell went away.

Default lol there's a lot of hot smells

Yeah I've seen this too- a hot smell, yup the admins don't like this post very much.

I fixed mine with a ZIO MOD.

It appears to be an airflow problem combined with a heat-blanket issue.

I am going to also Under-louver my hood in the morning.

I have about 3400 miles and I get this burning smell only when I turn on my ac. It only started about 1000 miles ago. The smell lasts about 1 min. I thought it was the fact that I added leds in the vent but I don't think thats it. Not sure but I'm getting concerned. Any ideas?
