Default Where to get an Oil Filter Wrench for the Toyota filter?

Not the strap kind, but the "cap" style that you would use a ratchet to get off.
Mainly, I need to know the size of the filter and where I can find one, AutoZone, Walmart, etc...

Appreciate the help! First oil change coming up!

why not get a spring loaded universal type? ive got one and i can use it in any car that pokes into my driveway for a oil change..

if you dont like that idea i remember seeing the one youre talking about at my local toyota parts department. while youre their you can get a box of filters damn cheaper than the ones you get at autozone/kragen

or you can go ridiculously expensive and get a K&N wrench off filter... http://www.knfilters.com/oilfilter.htm

I purchased the one I have at Advance Auto. I just took in the Toyota filter and tried them out until I found the one that worked. I'm sure Auto Zone has them too.

I'm at work, but if no-one else answers you, I'll try to remember to look at it and give you the exact size.

Dan.

Ok sounds good guys... Ill be by an autozone today and will just take one of the filters with me. I have an oil wrench already (the band style), but its too large for these filters, plus the "cup" style look more easy and straight forward to use since our filters are just RIGHT there.

Oh and miketf1, I already got my filters online from trd sparks (like $3.40 a filter? with a gasket), so im set there!

Ill check autozone out today in a few hours and see, but thanks for the help!

i dont know why people still buy the FRAM or other oil filters when OEM is designed for the car and is half the price!

my beef with the cup style is that i once bent the filter in the cup and i couldnt get it out... the boss got mad and i had to buy a new one for the shop...

Yeah me either! And usually are better made as well...

I probably pick up whatever tool is cheaper, weather it is the "grip" type or cup style, depending on quality/fit.

We shall see.

I bought one of the plastic type ones from Walmart that you use a normal 3/8 rachet on. Works great.
I only use toyota filters on mine. Like $5 and you know it is a decent filter.

yup, i got the 10 pack from sparks, and went to autozone and got myself one of those strap kinds, but they had the cap ones too. it's just my dad used to do oil changes 30 years ago, and he said that i should use the strap kinds....? o well. works for me though.

They didnt have a strap or cup one that could fit the small size of the filter, but they did have some type of three, metal prong grip tool that is like the cup, but "adjusts" to the size of the filter. I tried it out on the filter and it gets a nice, strong grip and think it will work out great. We shall see though when I do the change!

thats what i meant by the universal spring loaded type. i have a 2 "prong" and its worked for me and there is no fear of the filter getting stuck in the oil filter wrench!

Ahhh yes I see now. Makes more sense once you actually see one!

Looks like it will work very well and can see the *possible* problem with the other style.

Thanks for the help guys!

you'll need a 65mm cup. And if it's the car first oil change, get the filter pliers. The cup is useless.

Nah, this will be the third oil change. I used the freebies at 3,500 and 7,000, so I hope they dont think its fun to totally force the filter the tightest possible.

How much oil are you guys putting in?

I know it takes just over 4qts but do you buy a 5 qt jug and just put a little extra in (over 4qts) or just buy 4qts and be done with it?

i buy 5 1-quart jugs and save the extra for chips and dip afterwards. some guac and drizzle on some of the synthetic stuff and its all dandy.

jk jk ive never heard of oil going bad so i just save whats left over for another car or for the next change. just as long as you keep the cap on tight and keep it in a cool dry place so it doesnt absorb moisture and its gonna be fine. and using the 1quart bottle saves space..

plus i always somehow have an extra empty oil bottle around so any overflow from the drain oil i just put it in the extra bottle

In reality you should not need a filter wrench to remove your oil filter...you should never tighten your oil filter more than hand tight.

Regardless, it makes it easier. I did my brothers oil change on his F150 and even though he did it himself before, that filter would not budge (so he probably used a little more force then needed), but regardless, once I used my tool it came off no issue at all.

Cheap and easy help!
