That's probably the stupidest idea or thought process I ever read, buy a new set of springs since you only have one life.

When you make a spring shorter, you raise the rates or you compromise handling all the way. There is nothing good about doing this, and sorry if this sounds harsh but it is STUPID to do.

Nemo, you yourself are describing why this is such a dumb idea. You are bottoming out because the springs travel is too short for the spring rate. That means that when you throw it into a hard corner or make a quick avoidance maneuver you are on the bump stops, completely changing the handling aspects. This whole "I want it to ride low and soft" is a BAAAAAADDD idea and is why springs like Stechs handle like crap. Cutting stock springs is even worse.

And to really display how smart this is.. the person in my sig was all for doing this

And regarding the comment about squeaking when going over a bumps being a sure sign of cut springs.... it isnt. It is most times suspension bushings making noise. A lot of BMW guys who modify their suspension switch to poly bushings, which are known for making a lot of noise. That is most likely what you heard.

sorry but youre an idiot...youre 18 and people were cutting springs on cars to lower them before you were even thought about. i love how all you guys jump on the bandwagon to tell a guy what he should do to his car...i have rode in cars that have cut springs and i have rode in cars that have aftermarket springs in them and you cant tell the difference. (i currently have 3 cars with aftermarket springs and have owned one with cut springs) they all ride stiffer than stock. im sure hes not planning on road racing and im also sure it wont make him wreck head on into a church van full of kids. its his car and he was just asking if anyone had done it to some trd springs...i mean they(trd) have the least amount of lowering for all the aftermarket springe you can buy for the xb so who could blame him....are you guys saying its not "cool" to lower your xb? i agree that if he can find someone to buy the trd springs that he can probably use the money to buy some other springs and it will be a wash...all he has to do is leave his car sitting on jack stands for a week or so while he sells them and then tries to find some other ones.

ya it may ride the same, too bad it still allows your car to travel the same distance but your car is 1" lower. Your undercarriage will have a fun time meeting the ground.

ok so what exactly is your point here? people come here to find out how to lower their car...some of you guys just come here to act like state vehicle inspectors.

my point is that if you like scraping everything underneath, use cut springs. The lower drop springs you buy, have a much higher spring rate. If you cut the springs, your car is lowered with the same spring rate designed for the higher ride height. I don't give a ____ if you do it or not. it has nothing to with "state inspection" whatever the hell that means, it has to do with proper suspension setups, and enjoying your car in one piece, along with ride quality. Personally, I don't like bottoming my car out, but if that's something you enjoy, do it.

I guess if you "rode in them and they felt the same" that is supposed to mean something ? Handling is destroyed when you cut springs, period. Sure, people used to do it way back when the aftermarket was nearly non-existant and they typically just wanted to cruise down the street and look cool... and they stilled handled badly anytime you needed to turn quickly.

And the issue with cut springs is that they DO NOT ride stiffer than stock. Thus, with shorter travel, they allow the suspension to bottom out.. effectively raising the spring rate instantly that of the rubber bump stops.. or the bump stop mounts if you remove them. That can cause loss of control in any sort of hard turn (aka, trying to avoid something in the road). And if it isnt safety... most people at least want their car to handle as well as stock.. not horribly worse.

This thread is full of fail. Cutting springs is dumber than dumb and why is that half the people in here cannot type the English language? Some of you need to buy a dictionary at least.

I am locking for the fact that there is too much fail to handle.
