Default Making a box proper

What is the deal with the Scion 2nd gen xB?
Are there issues when lowering these cars:
Oil pan?
Exhaust system?
Front axels hitting anything?
I guess just general clearance issues?
This is my first Asian car, I had VW’s previously, we had issues with front axels hitting sway bars, oil pans getting destroyed, and exhaust scrapeage constantly.

This is not a German car... it's designed to be modified.

I'm guessing you had a lot of other problems with a German car also, most of my friends did until they went Toyota/Honda/Nissan. No offense intended, just get an xB and be part of the family. There are plenty of us that will help you out. Also we have lots of info on springs, just need to know your goals and desires.

Ah yes the good 'ol slammed MKIV VW issues. There sure are a lot of previous VW owner xB2 owners here. Haven't read any issues like those since I've been on here. Biggest lowering related dilema I've seen is choosing wheel width and offset and tire size. Seems to be way more critical on the 2nd Gen xB's then I remember it being on VW's. Might just be me though.

One thing's for sure, folks in the Scion world seem to be nicer and more helpful then in the VW world.....well at least xB people, I've heard things about the tC forums LOL.

Thanks guys, I’m presently already part of this xB land, had my IceBox since December.
Plus I have a set of K-Sports on order, they should be here soon enough, and I also have my wheels I just need to get them split, polished/powdercoated, put back together, and tires mounted and I’ll be golden.

Its not just the MK4 my friend, I believe it was/is every VW other than the MK2, don’t quote me… But I had a Corrado and the oil pan was about 3 inches off the ground and I’d scrape the cat all over the place, same with my MK4. I had no issues with my MK2 other than the underbody scraping on speed bumps.

They are awesome cars, other than all the demons. They end up costing more to keep running than they are worth.

These photos are right after the coilover install, after it settled I was tucking rubber. They were 3 way adjustable (height, dampening, and rebound) coilovers.

I just don't get the lowring of the xb2. Maybe I'm just older, but I think it's proper the way it is. STOCK. The way I see it, the xb2 is by no means a performance car, so unless you are going to dump a fortune into it with engine mods, there is no reason to drive it so hard that you need to lower it. So if you are dropping it for looks, go for it I guess. But I'd rather dump more money getting a good sounding stereo system. (But not a just some bass blasting machine.)

Oh one more thing, driving a lowered car gets old after awhile once you realize how annoying it is when you bottom out because of poor roads, speed bumps, or ridiculous driveways.

well being fast isnt everything in performance, great handling is almost as important as being fast. If you have the ability to out-corner someone, espiecally in Canyon's or narrow roads, you are technically Faster.. and looks always help too..

i say, trucks are meant to be raised, cars (even xB's 1st and 2nd generations) are meant to be lowered.. also some people have the money to do both, lowering and awesome stereo.. (Definitly not me though)... stock stereo sounds fine

But that's exactly my point. The XB2 (or XB for that matter) aren't performance cars. Why would you take a corner hard? If you want to take a corner hard, go for a TC or something. Something with a lower profile. Great handling? Again, if you are looking for fast handling, get a sports car.

Well lets face it, some of us bought our xB's cause it was the only thing really affordable at that time, i really cant afford to sell it and buy what car i want, so will stick with what i got, have fun around corners.. also the fact the gas prices are so high, and it doesnt even effect my living status..

Everyone has different taste... I lowered my car for no one other than me, if you have an issue with it then you do, no need to bring bad beef into this thread, make your own thread about how you think lowering cars is not a wise idea.

This isn't where I plan on leaving it this was just the initial install height, it'll settle a little more and then I'll raise it up about 1/2 an inch and then dial it in after I get my new shoes.

Thanks those of you who looked! K-sports are worth the $$$

Damn dude that looks great.

A few guys in our club have tC's on Tein S-techs, slammed. Makes me think about going lower than my NF's. But then I remember my VW and what that was like. Guess I'll decide after I get me wheels.

Wasn't referring to you PH, I was more talking about Gummy. Doesn't matter, threads seem to take Uturns all the time, do what you like with this thread, this whole forum is to chaotic for my taste, there is about 15 threads about the same springs, 10 threads about sway bars, the moderators don’t seem to care what happens around here… It is really sad!

lol you should see some of the posts in the tC forums. Reminds me of the MKIV forum on vwvortex (being a VW guy, you probably know what I mean).
