Default question about offset and clearance

my question is this. i have an 08 xb. sitting on axis pentas. 19 inch wheels. im not sure on the offset. but the lip looks to be about 2 inches long. so my guess is the offset is +42-45? im lowered on trd srpings also. my question is this : i wanna throw on some 20 inch wheels. i also want to go lower than the trd springs. possiblly df210's.

so if i go df210s and 20s, how low can i go on offset so that it sits flush with the fenders. lets say the wheels are 20 x 8.5, can i fit a +30 offset without rubbing on df210s? how about my trds? and if i must i'll roll my rear fenders to clear the wheels on df210s. any help is appreciated.

20x8.5 +30 would stick out past the front fenders about 3/8" and rub with a DF drop. I don't think 20's would leave enough sidewall to even fit tires with a heavy stretch. +38 would be flush with the fenders, but you'll need rubber bands for tires to not rub on DF's.

Find the 20" wheels you like first, and let's look at what width and offsets they're available in, to see what would work best.

(2" drop Sprint springs with 20x8 +40 offset wheels and 235/30-20 tires for that last one)

thanks for the links bro!

Now to get technical. alright looks like no dfs if i want a lower offset.that one black xb that has 20 x 10s in the rear has an offset of +35 all around. and his ____ looks mad clean. I noticed that to run 20s on a moderate drop you cant go past 8.5 inch wide wheels in the front with a 225/35 if you want to keep your ____ from rubbing.

i wanted to keep a 35 series tire all around cause 30s are way too thin. and im not down with that. so i guess this following set up will work just fine right?

lowered on trd springs

front : 20 x 8.5 +38 offset 225/35/20
rear : 20 x 9 +35 offset 245/35/20

or just go 20 x 8.5 +38 all around 225/35/20(front) and 235/35/20(rear)

im pretty sure that wouldnt rub. since that one other dude is running a fatter wheel in the rear than i plan to. and he's not rubbing. what do you think? nice set up? and as for what kind of wheel im not sure yet. i like my penta's but i want new wheels already. i love the r6:f spec from five axis but that wheel is not out yet.

Most people have very particular tastes in what style and finish they like for their wheels. That is why I always recommend finding the wheels you want first, then examine the available sizes and offsets to see what will work best for your set-up.

According to the Five Axis brochure, the R6:F_SPEC were expected to be available in late 2008. Did you contact them to find out they aren't out yet? They list the 5x4.5 bolt pattern sizes as 20x8 +40 and 20x8.5 +43 which should both work on the TRD drop with 225/35 tires.

You mentioned staggered tires on the same size wheels. If you really want to stagger; stay with your TRD springs, and go 20x8.5 +43 with 225/35 on the front and 20x9.5 +45 with 245/35 on the rear. This all assumes the R:6F_SPEC in the sizes that were listed in the Five Axis brochure.

You don't need to guess what your offset is on your Penta's. Look at the back of your rim, they should have the offset number stamped in it. That will give you a better idea what offset you will need for 20".

thanks for the help guys. i'll check the back of my pentas to find out what my offset is. i got a flat on the freeway and pretty much blew my tire and bent the hell outta one of my wheels. but getting fixed as we speak! so no worries there.

how big would the lip be on that 20 x 9.5 inch wheel? and at +45 will it sit flush with the rear fender?

and i know a dude who works for five axis and they delayed the wheel until summer of this year. theyve been pushing it back for a while now. ive seen the wheel at the la auto show. but the one they were showing wasnt a two piece like the brochure says it is. i lost my brochure so i dont know what the sizes are. i dont remember so thanks for filling me in on that!

To give you an idea of how flush 9.5" wide with +45 offset would look, here's 9.5" wide with +38 offset and 245 tires.
+45 offset would sit back about 1/4" more than this:

Here's the Five Axis brochure:

Not sure what your issue is with the link, my computer opens the link with all the pictures in both IE and Firefox. I don't know how big those lips are, but I do know that the size of the lip on any wheel is a function of wheel design, not simply offset & wheel width. If you want wide lips, you might look at the Maxis design on some of the Axis wheels:
