Default Staggered Setup?

Got a dumb question. hope u guys can help me out. I went to local shop and asked for R 1 Staggered wheels. they give me 18 x 8 for all four wheels.
However, the front two wheels have 1.7 lips and the rear wheels have 3.25 lips. they said that is staggered set up.

I always thought that staggered means the wide of the front two wheels is smaller than the rear wheels. for example : front 18 x 8 and rear 18 x 9.

Am I right?

Those must have staggered offsets, maybe the fronts are 45 and the rears are 35 offset.

Yeah if they're both 8" wide then it's definitely staggered offsets. But when referencing staggered wheels that usually means what you think, that the rears are wider.

Also keep in mind, that if you get staggered with wider rear wheels, you'll have more understeer. I don't know why, but it happens. I had 10" rears on my old VW, and staggered setups in the vdub world are everywhere. Everyone I know that's had a staggered setup has also had increased understeer.

its got to be around a 20mm difference in offset for that different of a lip.
ive got 15x7+ 38mm with a 1.5 lip, im going to a 16x8+ 15mm with a 3 lip. thats a 23mm difference

anyway, staggered only means "different" in the the rear then the front, to most people that means wider. althow with the differnt offset your back tires will stick out farther then you fronts giving it a wider look.

Yep, I always understood staggered to be any difference between front and rear, rim width, even rim size, say 18x7.5 front and 19x7.5 rear or 18x7.5 front and 18x8 rear, etc. I just think it makes tire rotation a pain personally.

Thanks for the info guys. I tried it today. the rear wheels don't fit. (3.25 lip). but the 1.7 lip fit all four.

I guess I just have to go with 1.7 lip all around, no staggered -_-
