Default tire plugged

So on my way to san diego on thursday, I hit a screw on the freeway and it punctured the tire. I had the tire plugged at a tire shop, so at least i didnt have to purchase a new one. my real question is, how well is the plug going to hold up? its right in the middle of the tread.

That depends on the plug. I work at a tire shop, and there is only 1 way to plug a tire that's RMA (rubber manufacturers association) and DOT Approved. Hopefully you went to a reputable (discount tire or americas tire Co. ) shop!!

I prefer patch plugs myself which will hold beyond the life of the tire if done properly. But my GF had one of her tires plugged and shes autocrossed and whatnot since then and so far so good

True that a plug patch from the inside of the tire is the best for the long run. A simple cheap plug "can" cause damage to the steel belting and other parts of the structure of the tire and cause premature seperation. Rare, but like I said it "can" happen. If you are concerned about it, then have someone remove the plug and repair it correctly.
