Short Shifter Question
If anyone hears from TRD sparks that the $115 kit comes with the guide plate please post. I am seriously considering buying it at $115. I only spent $20 less on the NST. I do believe that the actual assembly from NST is of good quality but the addition of the guide plate obviously makes the TRD the way to go.

You have been posting for some time that the cheaper product was equal or better. I'd like to see you back that up. Seriously, prove that your bargain NST part is better than the TRD Toyota parts!

and your reference to me saying NST was equal or better than TRD, you must be regarding this thread:

in which case, i never said it was better, only that i wasnt having any of the problems you seem to have, crappy shifting, or neutral feeling vague. i cant believe that thread still keeps you up at night. just because TRD gives you a chub doesnt mean you need to go into every other aftermarket thread and throw in your worthless two cents.
just got off the phone with TRD... the alignment plate cannot be ordered separately, as far as they know. the new alignment plate (which apparently DOES come with the $115 kit from sparks) was redesigned to change the feel of the shifts, and had nothing to do with reliability and/or extra wear and binding on the cables - changing the angle of the cables simply changes the feel of going in and out of gears.
Does anyone knows if TRD issued any recall for all the early kits they sold with out the guide plate?
Their kit has been on the market since early 2007 but the plate was added just recently?
If they didn't re-called their early kits I would not be worried about using the NST or piggies kit.
TRD recently improved their SSk, that's a fact. And it's cool they did. I will take PHATBLK's word that the NEW TRD ssk improves in some way the shifter feeling. not sure how much tough.
I've used the NST SSK in 2 different cars so far and drived for thousands of miles and I still love it. So does many more people.
The market currently offers 3 different options:
1) TRD: "arguably" the option that offers the best shift feel.
2) NST: The same company that offers the in-cabinin short shifter, the shifter bushings, the racing style tow hook and is working on our new U-drive pulley. And the same company that will continue developing parts for us in times when nobody else have...
3) The Piggies SSK: The cheapest unit. For the buyer only concer on the price.
So the way I see, we have 3 different options depending on the buyers interest.
That's something good wouldn't you say???

the TRD rep on the phone said if you have an old kit, its nothing to worry about. they simply changed the style of the plate to change the feel of the shift. he stated an old kit is just as good and there would be no worries about binding or excess wear on the linkage. if youd like to get the new style linkage guide, you need to purchase the kit with the new part number.
my quick shifter from trdsparks just came today and it does come with a guided plate.. however i do not know how to install it. i got all the bolts off but the stock plate just won't come off after countless tugs. any ideas on how i can get it loose???
advice and guidance would be very much appreciated :/
