At the first filter change (15k) on my xD I bought an AFE intake off eBay for about $180. My fuel economy went up by ~2mpg and power seemed to pick up, especially over about 3.5k rpms. Over the life of the vehicle it should actually save me money as the filter element is washable and doesn't require and oiling (which is good news for a hot wire MAF setup as well).

I like the looks of their short ram. Was abit skeptical since I only seen them on ebay. And its not much further frm top brands when it comes to pricing. But I might get them after the winter now lol

I'll be honest, I did a DIY swap with a Spectre filter and I didn't like the feel afterward. Car was louder, and while I know it was getting extra air, it felt like i actually lost some torques. I drove it for a couple weeks. Took much longer to get up to speed.

I put the regular filter housing back in, and just plan on swapping with a nice filter in there once the other gets a few more miles. Just my 2cents.

Im going to switch over to the cold air of my weapon-r soon the short ram is nice sounds great and did notice a little more power not a whole lot tho lol but the new weapon r cold air has an tube inside the tube with some air channels to give you more of a ram air feel i hear from friends it works great on some other cars and might be a winner on the little D

I though the weapon-r for the xd was just the single tube design.

AFE is a top brand, if you're performance minded... they just don't market to the sport compact crowd. Their product is definitely top notch and a perfect fit in the small xD motor compartment. One thing I really like is that the sound isn't really any louder than stock unless you put your foot to the floor; then you can hear the air whistling into the throttle body when the VVTi kicks in.
