Default What sounds does new xD make normally?

I've got my new xD two days ago. It's automatic. When I change a gear (from P to D, P to R, N to D or R) I hear a quiet clicking sound coming from the hood. So I opened the hood with engine running. I couldn't determine where it was coming from exactly - looks like from/under the engine... Sometimes I can hear a click when I start to drive.

Are these sounds normal for the car? My old car is 12 years old so I don't know how a new car's supposed to be heard.

Thank you.

...that would be the sound of you changing gears in the tranny.

Thanks a lot for reply. So that should be normal? I'm not so auto tech guy. Your explanation will be really appreciated.

yes, this is normal. when you move the shifter in the cabin, a linkage runs all the way up the transmission where other components move around and do their stuff.

are you hearing a click when youre in 'D' and take your foot off the brake to start going forward then, without any shifting? i wouldnt really worry about it, and if you are really worried, bring it into the dealer to double check. if your are hearing any clicking in the cabin, it could be a sticky brake switch/safety linkage that doesnt allow you to take it out of P unless you put your foot on the brake.

if its only clicking when you change gears, i wouldnt worry about it unless it truly seems abnormal or gets worse.

Thank you! Yes I do hear these sounds only when shifting. But to double check I'm gonna drop the car tomorrow at service.
Thanks a lot again!

Well, i have my car checked yesterday and was told that "we didn't hear any abnormal sounds". and i test drove another xD yesterday - makes the same clicking/ticking/clunking noises.
But now i hear some very-very quiet whistling noise when i put my foot on accelerate. Probably it was before but i didn't pay attention to it because was concerned about those clicking sounds . It happens when i drive on low mph (30 mph and higher). When i take my foot off it disappears, put my foot on pedal it comes on again. .

Also keep in mind, your in an economy car, so your bound to hear more engine noises and road noise compared to other cars. In my experience its nothing close to some other cars I've driven though

I noticed the whistling when I first had my car too but my old Corolla had that sound as well.

It's actually pretty quiet compared to a few other cars in its class surprisingly No where near a Lexus though hehe.

does anyone have any experience with dynamat or other related products to deal with noise deadening? was thinking about investing in some to quiet up my cabin.
