Default Alpine radios work in older xD?

I have an 09 xD with the base Pioneer radio. I have a chance to get the new Alpine HU for my XD. Is it plug and play, will it work with my ipod outlet as well, will controls work through the steering wheel still? Just curious.

I don't think they will. I wanted to do the same thing, since the new ones have USB support and HD radio built in. I got a pic of the back of an Alpine unit off of Ebay and compared it to mine and it doesn't look like the plugs match up.

No, you will loose the steering wheel controls when you swap headunits BUT you should be able to get them back if you buy an adapter. I found the right kind for my headunit (Pioneer AVIC F700BT) a while ago, it's a Sony __?__, but Crutchfield should list what accessories you can get for that HU and hopefully list the adapter for the steering wheel controls.

I haven't gotten the one for my car yet because I've heard it has a response lag and I'm not sure if I want to deal with that.

[edit]
Found it, this is the adapter for my HU,
PAC SWI-PS Sony and Pioneer Steering Wheel Radio Control Interface

Also, if you're doing the stereo upgrade from Scion, that will work with the steering wheel controls. Anything aftermarket will most likely NOT work with it.

Chels, I'm thinking he was talking about using the Alpine HU from the 2010 xD's as a plug-and-play swap. I could be wrong, though.

2010 xD Alpine HU will plug in, but you will loose the ipod and the USB functionality... the headunit doesnt support the ipod connections wiring and the 08-09 wiring doesnt support the headunits USB function... If that made sense...

Hey Wellesley,

Was wondering if you could get your hands on the RS 2.0 navigation unit. I've always had an eye for that, since it has handsfree and is compatible with everything...

Scion Safe guards against RS parts, There really is no way to get the radio unless you own a RS 2.0...
