depending on how a car is made being right vs. left hand driven cars it can make a difference. also USDM vs. JDM cars they can be different. ex. 1st gen xb is similar to 2nd gen. bb look similar but are differences especially on the interior. so it's not as simple, and like many who've used JDM parts for their xb they had to some minor modifications to get it to fit.

Bump - anyone know whether the IST armrest will fit in the xD? I have a potential lead. Looks like the cost of the armrest in Japan is 10,500 Yen ($99 according to xe.com). However, shipping might be almost that much again, depending on weight. Still not clear on whether they'll sell one to a non-Toyota buyer.
OTOH, I wouldn't be surprised if Scion charges more than $200 when/if they ever release one over here!
Any ideas on whether there might be any differences in the seat spacing, parking brake design, etc. between the IST and xD?
Thanks,
Andy

^^ Do you know of the quality of their armrests? No offense to their company but it might be a bit higher quality as the one that is being sold on eBay but still not the best it could be. At least it is an alternative though. Thanks for sharing.

AFAIK boomerang was making the oem add on armrests for scion.

boomerang was one of the first companies making stuff for the xa's and the xb's. the other OG company was zeta.

Thanks Angelo,
Looks promising. Can you share any more photos, and an estimate of the price?
Thanks,
Andy

http://zetaproducts.net/pageshtml/scion.xd.armrest.htm

Click the above link to see more images and get more details.

We are not looking to offer it in factory cloth to keep the cost down and also for durability. The lid is easily removed and can be recovered if you choose to do it yourself. The armrest includes a fold down cup holder to replace the factory cup holder that is used up.

As for availability, I hope to have a small batch the tail end of this month or the first week of March. As it stands now, I think it will sell for $119.95 + shipping.

I will post additional details as they become available.

Thanks for the interst!

What happens with this armrest if you want to move the seats back & forth? Wouldn't that be a problem with rubbing?

Brief overview: it didn't fit.
More details: I submitted a "Best Offer" of $97.50, which was accepted, but shipping was still $22.50. I received it in a timely fashion, but when I tried to put it in, I had to squeeze it together and jam it down between the seats. My seatbelt receivers were just a little bit too narrow for this armrest to fit between them. It sort of fit with some "persuasion," but then the seats wouldn't move forward or back. Might not be a big deal for some people, but my wife and I both drive our xD, so we really don't want to wrestle with a console every time we switch drivers and need to adjust the seats.
I emailed the seller about a full refund including shipping, since the item was obviously not as described. The seller claimed they would give me a full refund when the receive the armrest, as long as I left them positive feedback. Leaves me up a crick if they decide not to refund me, but that's all I can do unless I have to file a complaint with eBay. I'd rather figure things out directly with the seller first - we'll see, and I'll post here with what happens. FWIW, the packed weight was about 7 lbs, and it cost me about $13 to mail it back to California.
So anyway, unless someone has other information about this product or the seller, I'll have to recommend that you stay away from this armrest. If they could make it an inch narrower, it'd be fine, but as is, it doesn't fit properly.
Also, if you look at all closely, you can tell this is clearly home-made. I don't think it looks "cheap" (it sure could be worse), but it doesn't really look professional either - the vinyl/pleather is a little loose, and the hinge on the lid is a pretty cheap hardware store special which has a little bit of side-to-side play in it.

I guess I could have replaced the hinge, but after paying someone $120 to get this thing to me, I shouldn't have to "fix" it. If the hinge were the only problem, I could have dealt with that.

It looks OK once it's in, as long as you don't open the lid or look underneath, but it doesn't do anything to improve the looks of the interior either. You can't see from the pictures how tight it fit, but I really had to smack it and lean on it to get it all the way down. And like I said, once it was in, neither front seat would move at all - the armrest squeezed them too tightly.

Hope this helps, and if anyone's still interested, I'll post back when I find out about my refund.

Does anyone know anything else about the IST armrest? If I know someone in Japan, how hard would it be to get one? Are they available directly from a Toyota dealership, even if you didn't buy a car there? Or, if someone is having one shipped, could I pay you to order an extra one?
Let me know.
Thanks,
Andy

Umm... did you read my post? Rubbing in and of itself wouldn't exactly be a problem, because it was so tight the seats wouldn't move at all. No movement, no rubbing.

I guess if you could somehow force the seats to move, or if you cut into the armrest and modified the width, THEN you might have a problem with rubbing. However, since the seatbelt receivers aren't sharp or abrasive, I don't think that's a significant design flaw. If they would have made this thing about 3/4" narrower, I think it would have been fine from a purely functional standpoint. It didn't exactly look classy, but IMO it didn't look trashy either, for whatever that's worth.

Does that answer your question?

Duh! Now I see where you mention the fit being tight. Our armrest will not get in the way of anything! I'm real excited about offering this product. Just a couple more weeks.

BTW, what happened with that other armrest? That eBay seller cannot strongarm you into leaving positive feedback. There is an eBay policy about that. Just file a claim with PayPaly and let "him" work it out.

Well, I sent it back to them, and they refunded my purchase price and initial shipping, but not my return shipping. So I'm out $13, and no hassles after I mailed it back. I'm not aware of an eBay policy that would make the seller credit shipping BOTH directions, and my return shipping isn't part of the Paypal transaction, so I didn't pursue it further. It's done, I learned a lesson, and hopefully I saved some other people here from dealing with the same issues.

For your wonderful new armrest that solves all these problems, how are you going to ensure that the first users don't have to deal with the same headaches? Can you guarantee a full refund, including shipping both ways, if your product doesn't live up to its claims? Or maybe a good discount for the first few people who try it and report here? Not that I doubt your armrest is a good product, it's just that I've learned to be skeptical... I hope you understand.

Thanks,
Andy

Andy:

We were the first to offer armrests for the xA's and xB's back in 2004. We stand behind our products 100%. There is NO vendor who picks up the return freight. But if YOU are willing to commint to purchasing one of the xD armrests when they become available, I will up the return shipping if you are not happy. This is a One-Time offer to you only.

Normally, we have a One-Year warranty on our products. If not satisfied, a customer can return item and we will refund their purchase price.

Hope this clears things up.

Hi Angelo,
we are new owners and so excited!! We have been watching the post here about the armrest. Can't wait for it to come out! We do have a question. Is there anywhere to find the height (installed) and the lenth of the top of the armrest? We would like to get an idea of how high and long it will be once it is installed.
any information would be appreciated.

That's a very nice offer, Angelo. I think Andyman deserves a nice break for taking one for the team with that first ebay armrest!

Thanks again, Andy, for the review - I know I had been thinking of getting that armrest but your experience steered me away. Now, I'm waiting for Angelo's product.
