2009 vs 2010
Hey, Scion owners. Thanks for the advice about price haggling in my previous post. It's good to know the set price for a new xD is really set.
I've been looking at a 2010, but I'm also considering a used xD - 2009. Does anyone know the difference in the stereo between the two? Would I be happy with the stereo in the 2009? I'm looking at a used xD in Jersey, and I'm in Indiana. I'd have to fly out there if I were serious, and I'd like to know what I'm getting into. Here's the one I'm looking at. Thank you!

Aftermarket head units will sound better, but these are not so bad. The one your looking at in Jersey is a base stereo model T1808. When I switched to the nav unit, one thing I miss from the T1808 was the chapter skip. Meaning on a MP3 cd if you held the track up button it would switch to the next album. Now with my nav unit it will lock you into an album "if you skip to the next song during the last song it will start the album over again". You have to wait for the song to finish for it to go to the next album unless you disable the lock out feature then you may manipulate the touch screen.
As for the 2010, I think those have a usb interface for Ipod connect. Which you will no longer have to buy a proprietary cable from scion (plus the cable from scion won't charge newer ipod/iphone without another adapter). I haven't heard the newer system in person so I think ,if they sound better, the difference would be minimal.

hmm... 4800 miles and it was traded in? That low, I'd almost wonder if this was a dealer program car and/or if it was ever actually registered.
Looks clean.... but at that price, IMHO I'd say it wouldn't be worth the cost and/or hassle of flying to the East coast to buy the car. If it were say a 67 Porsche 910 then that'd be a whole different story.

I have an '09 and I opted for the base radio option. I am very happy with my choice. The speakers are the same. The only functional difference between the base and the middle radio is the addition of pre-amp outs. The NAV system just didn't look that nice to me... At least not for the money. I'd rather have a Garmin (which I do), and I also have an iPhone 4 and an iPad, so NAV is really not needed.
Yes, they added USB support in '10, which I would like to have, but it is not that big of a deal. There are other things I might be more concerned about - like does it have VSC? That was a deal-breaker for me. I even changed my color choice to get a car with VSC.

Mouse, I tend to agree with you on the trouble of going to the East Coast. And there were warranty advantages to going with a new one.
Last night I bought the 2010 in Barcelona Red, and I love it!

not to mention the 2010 has VSC/TRAC standard, and the 09 probably more than likely doesn't have it.
the head unit has 2 different types from 09 to 10. 09 uses pioneer as their models, 10's use alpine as their models. also, the 09 has the "scion ipod cable" thing and an aux jack on each side of the cigarette lighter, where the 2010 uses USB (with an aux together) on the driver side of the cigarette lighter.
those are the few differences.

I'm sure I'm not alone in this... but if I were going to travel to make a fairly large purchase if it wasn't local to me... It would have to be a smokin' deal that I was certain was completely above the table (i.e. not a shady deal). Then it might be worth it.
anyhoo... congrats on the new Scion
