Default Car start-up smells

Anyone notice a gas smell when starting their car? Or a rotten egg smell when parking their car? These odors come through the air vents when using AC or heat regularly. I can smell them for only maybe 1-2 mins at the most, and disappear afterwards. Is it due to the engine being so close to the interior cabin?

i just got the OEM toyota filter installed last weekend. i thought it would block most of the smell, but it doesn't seem to be the case. i'm hesitant to bring it back to the dealer since the cause of the problem seems vague and hard to pinpoint

thats really weird. ive never smelt either of those. i have smelt egg odor when parking other cars, which is just exhaust drifting up into the car. do you have it set on recirc or outside air? the car sucks air from outside just below the windshield.

does it only make this smell after the car has been sitting a while, or starting it up when its warm?

saddly its normal unless you back in your car and take off right away or you can set you hvac setting from fresh air to recirculate

but you have to remember to put it back to fresh air

i had this same problem. when i got my oil change i asked them if they could check everything out just in case. as mcbrew said, it's just your car warming up, cant absorb the sulfer burnt from your gas...it was annoying though having that smell seep in everytime i started my car/parked it.

I haven't noticed any smells either. I do use those can scents you can get though. I put one in the back seat drivers door cup holder and have had great success with pleasant smells in the XD.

Default dirty sock odor

My xD has 15k miles (2009) and the a/c smell has been an ongoing problem..Cabin filter has been replaced , this doesn't help.
The smell occurs only after a/c use and the a/c has been shut off. Fan still on and smell begins....
Why is this happening in a new car?
Does anyone know of any recalls on this?

Reluctant to return to original dealer...Found out that they had removed the cabin filter and never put it back in..They tried to upsell the filter to me at my 10K oil change. Jeez

Turn your air from circulate to fresh air. It will take it a while to clear up, but it will get rid of that musky smell. Also our XDs didn't come with a cabin filter. It has got a place for one, but didn't come with one.

Bummert, it could be that the condensate drain is plugged up. I have seen this problem in VWs many times. Water condenses on the evaporator coil and should drain onto the ground. If it is clogged, water stays in the air box and will mix with dirt, dust, bits of leaves, etc, and mold and mildew will start to grow. This is one of the problems that could be avoided IF they had just put cabin filters in the xD from day one.

See if the drain is clogged. Clean it out if it is. Find a product called "frigi-fresh" and follow the directions.
