Is there any real difference between a Curt, DrawTite and a Hidden Hitch hitch?

Chels, the Curt and the Draw-Tite are pretty close, but here are some differences:

Curt uses four bolts on each side, the largest is 5/8".
Draw-Tite uses only three bolts on each side, the largest is 1/2".

Curt includes a ball-mount.
Draw-Tite does not include a ball-mount.

Curt hitch has a reinforced lip on the receiver.
Draw-Tite does not have a reinforced lip.

Curt hitch will cost you about $150.
Draw-Tite hitch will cost you about $100.

NOTE: Draw-Tite and Hidden Hitch are the same company and the same hitch... just a different name.
Another NOTE: It appears that Uhaul sells the Curt hitch for $139. They don't list the brand unless you look at the installation instructions, which are for the Curt hitch. I would double check with Uhaul if you plan on buying it from them to make sure you get the hitch you want.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I just ran across Toyota's towing specs for the Yaris in Europe:

1.0L (68hp) gasoline engine: 750kg or 1,653 lbs
1.33L (99hp) gasoline engine: 900kg or 1,984 lbs
1.4L (89hp) diesel engine: 1,050kg or 2,315 lbs

I'd say it's safe to assume that the 1.8L (128hp) engine we have in the xD can tow a little more than the 1.33L.

hitting the highway this weekend again to go across the state of PA. woo hoo. if i estimate right, i'll average almost 40-45 MPG

also i think you mean 1.8 L, not 2.8 L

Hitch + bike rack
or
Clazzio seat covers

Either way. I have the TRD exhaust on the back of my xD, think that'll create a problem since those of you with the stock exhaust had to either pull it down or remove it(?) ?

Just rethinking what I'm going to get myself in to lol. That and I need to find a bike rack that'll fold out of the way when I need to get to the hatch. :?

[edit]
Just ordered the Curt hitch from etrailers, $145.76 total price with a 5% discount and free shipping. I'll be getting my bike mount this next paycheck

Chels, I don't think the hitch will interfere with the TRD exhaust. I doubt it would work with a rear lip kit without some modifications to the lip (cutting). The hitch is really close to the stock bumper as it is.

I'm in the middle of a two-week stay in Prague... and about one out of five cars here have trailer hitches. And let me tell you, these are SMALL cars. Almost nothing on the road here is available in the states. Most of them are diesels, but the gas cars are mostly 1.2 liters or so.

Hello everyone, first post =) I have my XD for a year now and am loving it. i do miss my 03' MR2 that i traded in but the XD is much more useful.

anyway I am looking at installing a hatch and get one a these

http://www.amazon.com/Motorcycle-Sco...=pd_sbs_auto_2

to haul my 50cc scooter. The scooter weights 178 and the carrier weights 37 so total around 220... its over the class 1 limit a little, anyone think it would be a problem?

My other main concern is how far the scooter will be away from the back of the car... these carriers all use 2” squares so I will need an adapter and that will move the whole thing at least 6” out the further away from the back of the car. The further away from the hatch attachment the worst of down force whine I hit a pot hole right?

I have no experience with towing anything. Any of you that have towing experience think my idea would or would not work?

I can't say for sure... but I wouldn't recommend it. It's not just the gross weight, but the leverage that is at work. Class I hitches are usually limited to a 200lb tongue weight. That's 200lb on the hitch ball itself. If you move out a foot, that weight is putting a LOT more stress on the hitch... especially if you are going to be over the 200lb tongue weight to begin with.

If you want to move your scooter, I would recommend a small motorcycle trailer like this one from Harbor Freight:

ya... i though it's a little too much weight... The motorcycle trailer is way out of my budget. That thing's 45% of my scooter's cost. but seeing how u guys can tow uhaul trailers i am going to install the hatch anyway. Pretty sure it will come in handy.

I think you mean "hitch." The hatch is the door in the back!

Speaking of trailer hitches... I just bought a new trailer! Harbor Freight had a sale on their 1,720 lb capacity trailer -- after an in-store sale and a 20% off coupon, I got it for about $265!
