Default Got Heat?

I am having an issue with the blower not blowing heat as I believe it should when I select "floor only" for the teperature/directional controls. I can still hear and feel heat coming out of the windshield, as if it is on defrost and floor.

In all other cars I've had, when you select floor only for the heat, it is blowing hard on the ankles. The temps have been in the upper teens/lower 20's, and I'm telling you, my feet/ankles are cold.

Now, the heat is very warm, that is coming out of the ducts. Yes, you can feel heat coming out on the floor, it is just not blowing very hard. It comes out the side vents and the windshield vents, when the floor only option is selected.

I took it to the dealer today, and the tech sat in the car with me and told me it is operating as it should. And that he has a 92 Corolla and it operates the same I told him my 18 yr old car I just got rid of had more blowing on the floor than this new XD.

My question to the board is - can you still hear and feel air blowing on the windshield when it is on the floor only? Is anyone else noticing this issue?

After I hopefully have some responses here, I am going to contact my sales guy and ask to sit in a new xD and try the heat to compare against my car.

I'm very frustrated as I bought this car to mainly drive in the winter and it's going to be a long 6 months in OH if I don't have some heat to the floor.

Thank you for any information.

I don't have my xD yet (Friday, hopefully!), but it sounds like one of the doors in the climate control system isn't closing all the way. It could be relatively easy, or a real pain in the butt to fix. That's probably why the dealership gave you the brush-off. You have a good idea -- get in one of their new xD's and see if it works the same as yours. If not, then you have a good case with their service dept.

You have a very good point about the doors not closing and I still feel that is the issue. Hopefully this thread will generate a few other responses and then I will follow-up with sales guy and service dept.

I hope you get yours Friday. Yay! Happy day.

Mine does the same thing, I noticed it as soon as the weather got cold. I think it's just the way the car was designed.

jmbreeze,
I noticed the same issue when the weather turned cold. The interior of the car warms up nicely but when I select floor only I still feel air from the defroster and side vents. My other cars also can really cook your ankles. Not in my xD. Minor nuisance for me though since the car still warms up nicely.

I'll have to check this out... But I tell ya I don't need to turn the dial all the way for heat it gets darn hot if I do. Also the Air works really well in the summer time too.

Thank you for the respones. At least I feel a little better knowing several of you say your car operates the same way. Yes, other cars I've had cook my ankles, but not this one.

I do agree, the heat is very warm, which I will not complain about. I figured out tonight if I put the dial on the notch(dot) between the floor only and the floor+ front vents, it sorta directs more to the floor.

its funny, because one of the complaints my mother had about earlier cars is that the floor vents just blast hot air on her feet and she hated it.
