Why not call them? It's your money you're spending so I would call them every day if I was waiting lol.

Guys who are waiting, I will tell you what I did. I too was waiting since june.

Don't be afraid to call often. I called at least once per week to get updates. It keeps you fresh in their mind and keeps them on their toes somewhat.

If you really want to get some results, go to scion.com and mass email every dealer around your house within a 40 mile radius asking them if they have the color and model you want. The form there keeps your message in memory so you can go down a whole list of dealers and just keep hitting send.

I got replies within one day from a ton of dealers and found the RS 1 I wanted in about 4 hours. Once you find one you can either go to the new dealership OR if you like the dealership you bought from, call them and say you located the car you wanted and please have them try to aquire it for you if they can.

This will alarm them because they know you found one at another dealership close by to you and also know you have a good chance of going and purchasing it instead of waiting with them. They will then work their asses off to find the vehicle for you : ]

That's what happened to me anyway.

Hope this helps someone out.

edit: oh... and being a dick won't help you lol.

The dealership called today saying they have a grey 2009 xD coming in (my 2nd color choice). I was already thinking “so what’s the catch” (after waiting since the end of May) when he says “…but it’s got an extra $400 option that you didn’t want”.

It took me a moment to reply that I hadn’t budgeted for that extra while thinking about keeping my loan payments manageable or breaking the bank for an extra cosmetic option.

He then went into the same excuse he had before; “The xD uses the same engine as the Corolla, and gas prices have created a shortage of efficient Toyota engines thanks to Corolla sales. They just aren’t making as many xD’s.”

So the dealership is still looking, and I’m still waiting…

I guess I'll start calling them once a week from now on now that the '09s are coming in.
I've also emailed the other 2 dealerships in the area. I'll make them fight for my business.

what was the option that was on it? you'd think they'd be able to remove it for you (depending on what it is of course).

No idea... It sounds like it's shipping from the factory with it. They also said that they aren't allowed to remove it.

Wow some updates:

Around 4:30
I emailed the two other dealers in the area and one called back saying they had one on the lot! However it’s got the same spoiler as the car the first dealer… The salesman suggested I didn’t really need an alarm system and I should get the spoiler instead. This got me thinking.. So I called the first dealer (since I have $500 down with them) to see if they could still get me the car without a security system, and they could but would have to check if it’s still avaliabe to them…

I am now waiting for a call back. If they can’t get the car or get it quickly I’ll ask for my refund and buy the xD at the 2nd dealer.

Around 6:30
The 3rd Toyota dealership (I emailed) just called saying that they don’t have any xD’s but they don’t have a doc fee and that they’d like my business if they can find me an xD. I told them that if they could find me an xD and pay less with them, they could have my business.

So I’m waiting to hear back from the 1st and maybe 3rd dealership (since they don’t have a doc fee) before I call the 2nd about getting the car maybe this weekend even since they are the only one with an xD on the lot.

So not all is lost, and I've got 3 dealerships trying to get or keep my business... I may even have a new car this weekend if all works out.

The question is: do I really need a factory installed security system?

I'd be checking that vin # to make sure it isn't an '08 they're getting from another dealership.

Do NOT waste your money on their "security" system. I didn't know this at the time, plus it was preinstalled, but its an absolute waste of money.

Save your money to get a better system after. I wish I had know that when I got my xD

I didn't get the security system. Thanks for the tip.

I got my xD today! (Wheel covers are coming in a few days) A 2008 model, but that’s no big deal since there were no real changes in the '09 and it costed a little less. The 2nd Toyota dealership had me come-in and hooked me up. I officially double crossed the 1st dealership because they were really being lame.

However the 1st dealer was mad and doesn’t want to refund my $500 deposit because they wanted to get the very same xD for me (from the 2nd dealer) and learned that I was already talking with the 2nd dealer who had it on the lot and refused to give it to the 1st dealer. The 2nd dealer got me to come-in and closed the deal because they are going to help me get my $500 deposit back from the 1st dealership, or just give me $500 if I couldn’t get it back. It’s supposedly an illegal practice (thank goodness) and if they don’t refund me they could be in trouble with the Automobile Association, or Visa or my bank will be able to get my money back. It got a bit too complex, but the dealership I went with was a lot more friendly.

I’m still getting used to the 5-speed manual, but I’m getting it quickly. It should be second nature after a week.
