Default Heated Mirrors

After dealing with the first snow of the season.......all I have to say is:

I WANT THEM!

Does anyone make them for the xD? We have power mirrors, how hard would it have been to make them heated too? Ugh.

i never had them and don't really see a need for them. scrape the mirrors off while clearing the windows of snow.

I have a remote starter and am lazy! lol

Plus we've had a few icy days too and its hard to scrape the ice off of the little wiggly mirrors with the big windshield ice scraper too.

I have had cars with heated mirrors (and I liked them!). It is basically just heat tape stuck to the back of the mirror. I haven't seen the inside of our mirrors... but if there is room to stick a couple incles of heat tape, then I don't see why it couldn't be done. Just wire it to a switch, or maybe the rear window defrost button.

Oh, by the way, the xD sold in England has heated outside mirrors. It might be worth having someone send over a pair of them. You should just need the mirror glass... I don't imagine they make the entire mirror housing different.

I wondered about that. I saw that the Urban Cruiser came with heated mirrors. You would probably need more than just the glass? Wiring & button to turn them on?

Yeah, you'd certainly need to wire them in. What I meant was that the mirror glass would be the hard part. Get that from England, then wire it up yourself. Either to its own switch, or to the defrost button. I'm not sure how they do it on the Urban Cruiser... some cars have auto-defrost mirrors (temperature-based), somer have a switch, and some work off the rear-window defrost button. I have had cars that worked all three ways.

If you decide to order them from England, let me know first. I'd like to get in on it and share the cost of shipping with you. Maybe we can get a group-buy going, but there doesn't seem to be too much interest in heated mirrors for the xD so far.

Wiring it to the defrost button would make the most sense to me, but I'm not sure if I'd have the skills to do that. Maybe with a DIY guide type thing.

I'm not even sure how to go about getting them from England. I participate in another forum with a number of UK members. I guess I could see if one of them feels brave and could hit up a Toyota dealership over there...

Well, I don't think I have any connections in England right now... But I'm serious -- if you decide to go for it, let me know. I'll do a DYI for it.

I got in contact with a UK Toyota parts supplier willing to ship to the US but even tho they have the latest parts catalogue he says it doesn't show heated mirrors. He did say that if it's something new for 2010 it may not show for a while. Right now they are probably only available thru a dealership I guess.

Thanks for trying... maybe they'll have them soon. Or maybe the UK Toyota site is as bad as the US Scion site as far as being wrong about certain options.

I was just killing time looking for any type of aftermarket heated mirror kit universal or otherwise, and I found a post on a tacoma forum. FWIW This guy has a DIY using the heating elements contained in heated motorcycle grips.
