Default Help with Xd purchase options

I was looking for some helpful advice as to what would be a better deal, a new or used Xd. I am looking at purchasing a Xd soon and went to my nearest Toyota/Scion dealership and looked at the Xds that they had. I wanted to see if they would assist in getting a new one in if I order one, due to the fact they only had two new ones in stock, but neither in the color I was looking for.

I talked price and was told about the "pure price" deal Scion uses and, but I was hoping to wiggle abit on the price, but no deal.

I was shown a used Xd in my second desired color that had 6K on the odom, salesman advised he could work the price on that one due to it being used and not apart of the pure price deal. I was just wanting to know since I have nothing to go on as far as what a used Xd with 6k on it should go for, what should a fair price be?

This is where you guys/gals come into play.

I want to get an idea what you think a good price on this used Xd auto (MSRP $15,970 if new) that would make you buy it over new. So I guess what I would like to know is if you could get a new one in your favorite color with this same set up for the $15,970, how much less $$ would it take for you to take a second choice color and 6K on the odom.

I was thinking $2,000 off MSRP. Too much? Not enough?

Don't get me wrong, I would love to have a new one in my favorite color, but if the price is right I would gladly have a 2nd runner-up. I just am leaning towards a used one. I just have a hang up on buying new, did it once and have had better price luck on used cars.

*I have locked in a 4.99% APR on new or used so it is a matter of price at this point.

Thanks for any input that may help me decide on what is best.

With the economy the way it is I would see what type of deal you could make on the used. Make an offer and be prepared to walk away. What do you have to loose?

when i went to the dealer to get my xD the dealership here had a used on with 1k miles and it and he offered to sell it to me at msrp minus 20cents a mile. so roughly 200 off. so in you case i would say 1200-1500 dollars off msrp is what they might offer you.

btw... I opted to order a new one.

$2k off seems good. Its used and remind them of that, because I almost bought a slightly used Yaris off a dealer lot and they wanted afew bux under MSRP because its still "considered new"...B.S.

I bought my xA used with only 3800miles on teh odometer for $11k. Except for a 2 inch scratch on the top of the rear bumper it was flawless, and like you was one of my alternative colors...definitly not my first choice. But the price was right and it turned out good so far. But I bought mine off a BMW/Mini dealer, so I'm gettin the rest of the factory warranty. That xD your looking at should be a Certified Used car, so 7year/100k miles warranty... If they can take a good chunk off the price, than definitly go for it. If its only afew bux like on that Yaris I was lookin at, screw it and order exactly what you want.

used scion cars are tricky sometimes b/c of the pure pricing they're market value either trade in or wholesale is higher than the original pricing. At our dealership on occasion we'll even bring out the cost card for the used vehicles if we really need a sale or what not. If you can wiggle that out of their hands, then you can decide what a fair profit is for them.

Thanks guys. The way it sits they have it marked up $1000 over the cost of new and could not explain why, just kept saying they could deal on the price more than new. (guess why it has sat there so long) I would be asking them to go $13,900 and that would make it seem like 3Gs off. Will see if they go for it. Another example is they have a '02 Neon with 37K in good (i mean just good) condition and they are asking $9995. Laughed at that when they told me, checked loan value on it just to see how bad it was overpriced and its $6500. WTF? So they like the mark up for sure. Well thanks again for great info and hope to work a deal, if not on to the next dealer.

Sounds fair to me. It does have a good chunk of mileage on it for a car that's been on the market less than a year. I'd shoot for 2k off MSRP and if they don't take it, walk. Once you're out those doors they might just change their minds...

Any less than that and it wouldn't be worth it to me. The car is used and you don't know how it's been driven or broken in.

BTW is this used one stock or does it have extras?

Glad I don't seem to be asking for too much from the dealership. It is stock. No add-ons. That is what got me, was the fact they wanted $1000 over new MSRP for it and I think its so when they "drop the price" for the poor soul who like the car they think they are getting a great deal. Thanks guys, glad to know my thinking is not that far off.

LOL, $1k over msrp..... Yea I'd seriously do some hard negotiateing with them or else walk out the door and order a new one from someone else.

And $10K for a Neon is a real ripoff. Alil more money and your in a new Yaris...

In the end, it's all on you. But in my opinion, wait or go to a different dealership and get what you WANT. It's an investment, costs a pretty penny, so be happy with it. This is coming from someone who bought a 08 xD 6 months back in one color, and I just traded it in 3 days ago for the color I originally wanted. I should have just waited. There wasn't a huge rush. Not sure about your situation though. Look at other dealerships!

for the $2000 more, i would rather get a new vehicle and the color i wanted...but that's just me. in my opinion, anything over $10,000 is a lot of money, why not just add on a few more $$ for what you really want?

The one Toy. dealership where I live gets a premium for 1st Gen xA and xB's on there used car lot. A price of $14.5 - $15K for a 2004 or 05 xB with 50-60K miles

They are capitalizing on those high gas prices right now... big time!
