Default Manual transmission is fried

I own a 2009 Xd with a manual transmission with 128xxx miles. About 2 months ago, it started making a noise after releasing the clutch, thought is was something to do with the clutch. When getting the regular service, I asked them to do a transmission service and check it out. This was 2000 miles ago.

Driving Saturday, it kicked out of 3rd gear. Didn't think too much of it, thought maybe I didn't have it pushed into gear well enough. A couple of minutes later, it kicked out of second gear. I immediately drove to the Toyota dealership. By the time I got there, it was acting very crazy and refused to go into any gear while at a stoplight. I eventually got it into 1st and then 2nd and made it to the dealer.

The dealer called today and said the transmission is junk. He said that he has made some calls looking for a used one and the company said that he has been getting many calls for them.

Anyone else have issues with their manual transmission?

I'm not sure if they did or didn't. They said that the transmission fluid is burnt and black. Said that some bearing went out and caused it. I'm just trying to figure out if this is common. I am finding several instances of the same thing happening to others as well.

I bought a Scion/Toyota because I know that I put a lot of miles on my car and the reliability over time of Toyota is better than most companies. I would expect a clutch to go out over 130xxx miles but certainly not a transmission. I can get more than that out of a Ford/Chevy or most any other company.

Manual transmissions dont have "fluid", they have gear oil. It can help to know what bearing went out specifically as well.

He didn't say what bearing went out. I have not authorized them to do anything but diagnose the problem. They were going to get back to me on an estimate on what it would cost to fix it, with both a used and new transmission and if they were willing and able to help with the cost of that.

In the meantime, I have found several different used transmissions online and have found several for anywhere from $650 to $800 (only $25 shipping) and I have an acquaintance who will put it in for under $300. I would be down a car for a while but it is an option. I can live without it for a while, as I have a Harley that I can ride wherever I need.

i dont see how gear oil gets dirty that quick unless they never changed it....and how did the clutch itself feel, after your encounter with these problems, normal or weird

Nothing felt right after it happened. I could barely get it into any gear, it did not really want to go, it bucked and kicked at one point. I really don't know how I got it to the dealership.

After getting it stopped at the dealership, the clutch seemed to feel alright.
