new toyota engines
Anyone else heard about these new engines from Toyota?
I read the new 3zr supposed to put out 155hp and the new Avensis is also packing a new 2zr-fae which puts down 147hp
I wonder if the 2010 xD's will have either of these engines and if its possible to get those extra ponies with a simple upgrade to the 2zr-fe (as far as the fae, the 3zr is going to be 2.0l :O)

mmm...unfortunately i doubt Toyota would be so kind as to utilize a new engine. they really only change engines when a model has been redesigned. if the iSt is redesigned for 2010, then its possible we'll get an upgraded engine in the states but..we'll have to see how that turns out
would be nice though

I don´t think you will see those engines in tha States any time soon.
I could see the 3ZR-FAE perhaps in the 2010 Corolla.
Regarding to the upgrade.... it could be possible but not easy nor inexpensive as it would require a head and ECU swap.
The 2ZR-FAE adds the new valvematic technology to our engine. In other words is our engine but with cams lift

Apparently this is old news as Toyota patented the Valvematic technology in March 2007 that will eventually be implemented in the new 3ZR-FAE engines.

However, Honda's answer to Toyota's new Valvematic technology is 'Advanced Variable Valve Timing and Electronic Lift Control' aka 'AVTEC', that filed their patents sometime around April 2007.

As always, Toyota City breaks new grounds as Detroit trails behind.

I've read a lot of US cars are quite dependable these days. Unfortunately they lost a majority of their potential buyers in the 90s due to their poor quality and lack of care to their customers. My moms 99 Grand Am had its camshaft split on her on the highway, GM refused to be of any assistance, since then we've only bought Japanese. These greedy unions don't help at all either though, you can thank them in part of this mess.
VVTi looks so much cooler then a big VALVEMATIC on the engine though

valvematic is continuous valve timing that functions with the timing of the camshaft. and works on only with the intake side to eliminate the need of a throttle plate. read the link that was posted earlier...
