Default Real MPG trip comp

Hey guys,
Something that interested me as i was driving today, do you guys think that the trip computer is actually correct? What leads me to believe that the trip computer is indeed actual is due to the fact that when i drove my xD from Orange County california to Seattle washington. Mapquest had rated it at 1400 miles or something around that. And after stopping overnight cruising cities on the way. I only managed to get up to about 12?? miles. So it leads me to believe that the car actually underates its distance a tad. What do you guys think?

So if they indeed underate them then.... perhaps. What do y'all think?

Depending on tire size you might notice the discrepancy, but it's not going to be 10% like you mentioned.

I think it was pretty close to dead on with stock steelies, and now with my 18s it's off by about 1/2%

thats interesting because i am on stock steelies. Maybe mapquest is overrated a little. I have no idea why it did that, but it was at least 10 percent difference.

Easiest way to test: when driving on a highway look for mile markers, reset your trip meter as you roll by one of the markers then check back in 20-50-100 miles and see how far off the trip meter is.

Default Or check other maps

You might check google map/direction or mapsonus or other trip sites.

yeah, I've taken a few relatively short trips and Mapquest has been a good bit off on the mileage (I mean a 40 mile trip that Mapquest calculated at 57 or so). Google Maps isn't perfect but has yielded more accurate results.

Mapquest is sometimes horribly inaccurate, and doesn't always take the shortest route between two locations. I wouldn't worry about it unless you've compared the exact same road with another vehicle's trip computer.
