Default Stupid Horn question...

I have a question for you scion owners!

I own a 08 Scion xD, and when I lock the door the horn will sound and when I unlock it the horn will sound twice. I know this is typical on cars, but the horn is INCREDIBLY loud. My brother's xB, all that happens when he locks it is a small beep (not the horn) and the lights flash.

My question to you:

Is there anyway to NOT have the horn sound off so loudly when I lock/unlock the doors?

Thank you very much !!

Do you have the scion security system?

Every stock car does the beep noise, every toyota and scion. Maybe the horn is part of the security system, but i'm not sure.

There are some after market systems that get put in sometimes when i worked for toyota we did it alot but that was only for the cars that did not come with one. im pretty sure yours might be wired wrong are you using the buttons on your key or do you have an extra little bumper on your key ring?

I do have the scion security system with the key-less entry (the big ___ key with the buttons on it.) When I double click (or single click to just open up the driver's door) with the key, the lights will flash and then the horn sounds twice...When I lock it the lights flash and the it only beeps once.

With my brother's xB like I said, the horn is much more quiet, mine actually sounds like the legitimate horn sounding, which wakes everyone up when I go to work lol

My 09 Tc definitely does not. The wifes 2010 xd does though. She said I had beep envy.

the question is this... is it a beep? or a honk?

honking is the horn.. which i don't know of any xD that does that while unlocking or locking the door..

the beep on the other hand is a piezo.. which is what i know is in the xD... the car comes standard with the big key and is not part of the Scion Security system. the only way you can tell that you have it is a plastic panel piece on your dashboard that says Scion Security.

the piezo is higher in pitch so i can see why you think it is louder... but it is definitely NOT a horn.

if it is really your horn honking... then you have something else... and another problem in itself.

Ok so if its a piezo or actually the horn would lowering the voltage lower the volume? Say through a resistor or something?

Or a diff piezo? Im not firmiliar with them

Perhaps recording the noise and posting it here would help. When you are no where near anyone, do the panic test. Hold the panic button. that mode flashes the lights and honks the horn, the real horn. the unlock/lock should be a different beep noise. high pitched, but should not be a horn honk.

or as mentioned above, perhaps it's wired wrong.

Also, you say your 09 tC doesn't beep?

Nope no beep or horn. Lock or unlock. Panic is the only noise made

yeah they do, the dealer turns that feature on or off. in fact, the dealer can turn off the light flash and the beep noise for locking/unlocking.

again i repeat, tCs (and we're talking 1st gen here since his car is an '09) DO NOT honk or beep when locking or unlocking.. even with the scion security.. an aftermarket alarm system however can change that.

there is no "feature" that the dealership can turn on or off. it's as simple as that.

i have owned a tC since they were released in 2004. you sir, have an xD... i think i am more qualified to make this statement.

and xDs don't honk.. xDs have a piezo that beeps.. the typical toyota piezo that's placed in their cars nowanddays.

i never said honk for an xD. the only honking is when i press the horn or go into panic mode.

and yes, the dealer can turn off the piezo beep or turn signal flash on the cars.

the honking statement for the xD was directed at the OP...

the dealer turning off the beep and flashing was directed to you, specifically stating that the dealership could not do that to a tC... since there's no beep to turn on or off to begin with.

and to fkob, to find the piezo, look under the hood.

Ok so get this now...maybe someone can help.

If the passenger door or the driver side door is OPEN, and the car is on...and I turn the key off and take it out...it will beep twice (small beeps) and then sound the HORN. I know this is the horn because its loud!! lol Any ideas?? thanks! Happy Thanksgiving by the way!

Well, I'm a little late to post my 2 cents here seeing it's 7 months later from the last post, but here we go:
My 2010 XD has an UPGRADED alarm (som-_____ sales guy didn't mention the basic FACTORY alarm it had) and it too:
Flashes running lights and SOUNDS THE HORN once for Unlock
Flashes running lights and SOUNDS THE HORN TWICE for Unlock
.......haven't tried the PANIC yet.......
And YES, it bugs the hell out of me every time and it is using the actual horn. Makes my sister JUMP if she's too close and I forget to give her a heads up before unlocking.
I believe the alarm manufacturers user manual (Folded piece of paper is more like it) is where it states that several functions can be changed, like the horn sounding, lights, etc, only at the DEALER! Friggin' dealers.
Love the car, love the gas mileage and damn I look good in it,...LMFAO
