Default VSC installed at dealership?

This may be a stupid questions but is the vsc a dealer installed option or do you have to order the car with it. If it is installed at the dealer what do they do, is it just some kind of computer deal? and how much does it cost, and what would installation be? I've had two xB's and I really liked the vsc and would like to get it for my xD now, Thanks for the help!

Here's the new D!

sorry to be the one to break the bad news to you, but if you didn't buy a xd with VSC already in it, ur out of luck. its more than just a computer thing, due to the way the VSC takes over ur drive train and braking systems when you start to lose control on bad roads. in fact, i was told that VSC is the one option you have to get with the car if you want it.

Vehicles with VSC have a different main wiring harness, steering angle sensor, yaw rate sensor, different brake booster and a different ABS modulator. Vehicles with VSC have electronic brake assist and vehicles without have a mechanical brake assist built into the brake booster.

it's a factory option.. however it must be built with it...

nothing the dealership can do except order one with it from port if you want it.

It's going to be standard in a year or two. It may even be mandatory, I am not sure.

NOT buying a car with VSC now is going to eat into your resale value once they ALL have it.

It's like air-bags. Who buys a car without airbags these days?

How do you know if your XD is equipped with VSC? What is VSC? Pros & Cons of having VSC?

VSC is vehicle stability control. It is a safety feature above and beyond ABS and traction control. Among other things it can work your brakes and steering to help you recover from skids. Here is more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_stability_control

It is an option when buying an xD, standard on xBs up till now. Not sure about tCs. If you're not sure if you have it, check your manual or call your dealer probably.

If your xD has VSC, it will have a button to turn it off down by the park brake lever in one of the four button nock-outs there.

It's also a ~$620 option so check out your sticker. I don't think one can miss that charge. Unless you bought your xD used.

When we bought our sons xD we tried to find one with VSC but very few of them come into the country with it. I think it has to be std. in 2011 or 2010.

Rumor has it that they won't be bringing in any more 5-speed xD's with VSC this year unless you special order it. The regional rep said so... for what it's worth. I ended up having to change to a different color because they couldn't find be an MG 5-speed with VSC. I could have special ordered one, but it would have taken 2 months or more. Oh, well... BRM will have to do!
