Has anyone installed a aftermarket doubldin head unit. My wife is geographically challenged and want to get a pioneer AVIC D3 but crutchfield says it doesn't fit our xD. just wondering I assume there are no metra kits to fit the HU that is why it doesn't fit but couldn't you just use the brackets from the stock HU

 

Stock brackets + regular Metra Toyota double-din "ears" and it will fit just fine.

Stock Scion/Pioneer HU is about 1/2" wider on each side than normal double-din, thus the "ears" that get attached to the sides of the aftermarket units.

I actually found these Metra "ears" in my garage last night - used to have them on my tC with Avic D2. Want them?

do not buy from best buy or any big place...u will get ripped....

go to a decent stereo ONLY shop and get it there u can deal them down and get other stuff at the same time and not get ripped!

dude i have the AVIC D-3 in my tC and I love it. It is a great headunit that is great for a lot of things besides Navigation. I use it for everything. Like my iPod, cd's, navigation, passenger can watch a movie while i am driving, makes a sub sound a lot better than a stock headunit and all that. Just the touchscreen is a nice feature. It is super easy to control too.
