Default Upper suspension mount (Front)

I've noticed that I have a 3/8" gap between the top strut mounting cap and the body. Its actually allowing the suspension to move around freely. Is this normal?

I have recently put on a Ksport coilover system, and as far to my knowledge I have used all the OEM parts on the upper part of the strut. Which is what the manufacture requires. I just dont remember if I had this amount of a gap. I have attached pics.

If that is moving around it is NOT normal.

I haven't done any suspension on an xD yet... but just looking at that, there's no way it can be normal. Do you get a lot of clunking noises when driving around?

Not a lot...but some. Mostly noticeable when going slow. That is what brought it to my attention.

I kinda resolved it, but I dont know if it proper. I removed a 1/2 spacer on the threaded shaft coming through the top, which allowed the strut to sit higher into the body. This allowed me to flip the mounting cap and bolt it down to the body. So now there it no more noise.

My concern is, how strong the upper threaded shaft is. Its hollow to allow for an adjustment rod to go down into the strut to adjust dampening. I'm not sure how much stress is put on this, but I believe its more than the original setup.

I need to call Ksports today. Thanks for the reply, if you have any suggestions, I'm all ears.

Ah....so there must be a reason. I think the suspension needs to be able to move around a bit. Thanks for the info

Anyone else have an opinion on why this must be?

I will be reverting this back today, but I would like to know why it must be this way, it does make a little noise, and there might be another reason why.

I also just had mine aligned and they adjusted the toe a bit and that was it. They did not say anything about the struts, this was at the Toyota dealer.
