Default Transmission Fluid Change...

So i just rolled up to 25k and did another oil change... My question is when did any of you guys do your Transmission fluid change? and is it really just taking out the plug, draining it, and then refilling it?

well our engine blocks are the same and i just did mine last week. you can just pull the plug and drain/refill but if you have the time might as well pull the pan and replace the filter. autozone has the trans kit for like $17. it took 4 qts of atf to refill it. drive and measure after 3.5 qts then fill more in needed.

How hard was it to pull pan? and did you need gasket sealer to seal it back up?

i will probably do just the fluid then at around 60k, do the filter. since im using royal purple synthetic oil in the engine, i was planning on using royal purple synthetic atf. anyone have any suggestions? i know our trannys use the world standard oil or something like that.

No need to drop the pan. Just do a fluid change every so often and you will be fine. Not to mention, the ATF fluid is life-long anyway, so really, no need to even change it.

I did mine at 17k, will do again around 30k and then stick to some interval (20-30k). Its super easy and is less than half the work on an oil change. Just pull the plug and refill. Not much more it to that.

easy to pull the pan. it takes a 10mm i think. pull the plug first to drain most of the fluid. i did use a gasket sealer on the new gasket. but it's true you don't really need to pull the pan. i just did it cause i was bored and it's cheap. just drain/refill every 20 or 30k and you should be good.

Are you auto or 5-speed? I changed mine out to Redline mt-90 at 5k miles because the stock fluid in the manual transmission sucked.

i'm auto. my old war wounds won't let me drive a manual comfortably. there's a write up in the tech section that has diy for both.

I have an Auto... And i think i will just drain/refill every 25k... When you pop your hood there is a dipstick on the right side... Its Red i think and you use a funnel and put in the Transmission Fluid NOT OIL...

Any sugesstions on a descent brand or does it not matter too much since i will be changing it every so often?

I will probably have to change my tranny fluid soon I guess. My 08 is due for its 15,000 mile service in toyota. Do i need to take it in there or can I just get away with just changing the oil myself? If I change it myself will the Maint req. light stop flashing?

It's really easy to reset the Maint. light. Make sure your ODO is on Trip A before turning off the engine. Now with the engine off, hold the ODO/Trip Meter Reset button down & start the engine while continuing to hold the reset button down. You will see 5 dashed lines that disappear one at a time over about 5 seconds. When they have all disappeared, let go of the reset button. You're done.

(Read your Owner's Manual, it's on page 99, if you have any difficulty with it.)

Thanks. So changing the oil myself would be good enough? What do they do for that 15000 mile service anyway. i hope i don't need it.

I wish I had my manual. when my wife took the XB to work one night, she came out and some theives busted throuh the drivers side window and took that whole portfilio with all the books for it and my registration, becuase I don't really like to keep anything in any of my cars. so thats all the stupid f%cks took. I HATE THIEVES
