Default Tire Size Question

What is the largest tire you can put on a XB? I was told 215/40/18. But I have been told you can run 45 series with out rubbing. What is the truth? Thanks for any help on this guys. I know alot of you will say what the F#$% but I expect that. I need some more side wall.

Well, I don't want to get smaller wheels. But just increase the side wall. The gap I have looks stupid, or at least I think it does. I don't have a drop right now because I want to figure out what size tire I could put on with out rubbing at stock height. Then see what kind of fender gap I'm looking at so I could see how much drop I would need to fill it.
