Default Tire Sizing comparison help

I'm looking for feedback concerning tire size... I'm going to be buying my wheels this week and was wondering what people thought about the difference between a 205/40/17 or 205/45/17. I haven't been able to find any thread comparing the two sizes and was wondering if anyone knows if there is any significant difference. I was quoted about $80 more for the larger sidewall and I would have to go to Falken ZE512 from Nitto Neo Gens. Thanks for any help you guys can offer me... I'm just not sure if its worth the extra 80 for a little extra sidewall and the fact that I'd have to go with Falken's which I haven't read too many good reports about compared to the Nitto's.

I'd run the 215/40R17 on the Scion. It's the proper size. The 205/40's are more for the Civics... how wide are the wheels you are looking to get?

i'm running Nittos 215/45/17 ... although the 215/40/17 is abit more low profile...with the wheel space... i recommend getting 45 series cuz u get more cushion and fills the gap between the tire and fender better.

If you get 18s...then get 215/40/18 tires.

The 215/40 are a better match to the stock tires. Otherwise 205/45 work and give you a bit more sidewall--which is beneficial if you encounter rough road conditions. What is the width of your rims. Generally the 7 in width matches the 205's. With 7.5 rims go for the 215's.

Ya the wheels I'm lookin at are 17x7... I wanted to go with the Neo Gens a little more because I read a lot better reviews for them than the Falkens. I thought about 215/45/17 but I didn't think it was necassary cuz every site sells 205/40/17 in all their package deals. I guess I'm gonna have to think about this just a bit more... thanks for your help.
