Actually the Matrix, Corolla and Lexus RX330 are built at TMMC in Cambridge Ontario, Cananda. Oddly enough Ontario has been rumored for the new Scion plant. NUMMI builds Corolla, Vibe and Tacoma.

So those of you with a Matrix-is there any know problems?

I looked into trading my xB for a Matrix ( I want the 1.8L!) but a base matrix is around 16K right?

As for now I love my matrix ( until i get my STI). Its great for going on trips and carrying stuff. Room was my main concern when i bought it almost 2 years ago. I wouldve gotten the corolla S but it wasnt enough space i wanted.

for a new base that sounds right. Why not just get the Xr or Xrs? The base looks funny without the oem kit. The door handles and whatnot are not painted.

And I have had no problems w/ my Matrix Xr. (knocking on wood) Its been down to SoCal at least a dozen times, beaucoup road trips, and I put synthetic tranny fluid in it. Recently saw the TRD S/C for it for $1,800 so maybe, just maybe I'll get that also.

I'm sorry, I'm confused. You said the Matrix, Corolla and RX330 are built at TMMC and the Corolla, Vibe, and Tacoma are built at Nummi? So the Corolla is built out of both plants?

Where did you get this information? I heard from pretty solid info that Matrix AND Vibe are out of Nummi, but if that's wrong, I got some people to chew out. . . hehehe damn lazy bums don't even know what cars they are building! But hey, go figure!

NUMMI, TMMC

I was surprised about the Corolla also. Guess you have to check the origin sticker. Matrix has Canada as country of origin, at least when I last looked.

Also this page from Toyota: North America Manufacturing

a s/c 1zz is still slower then a stock 2zz
but more potential , cheaper and no power lag like the 2zz it can be alot faster actually , if you have s/c 1zz with header , full exhaust , custom cold air , and the right tuning as well as cams your lookin at about 200whp.

I miss my Matrix! It was seriously one of the best cars I've ever driven! It was great for road trips, comfortable, fast, and plenty of storage space.

Too bad I crashed it. And eventually traded it in for the box.

If there was no xB, I would still rock my BSP Matrix!

i have to disagree with the xrs burning the clutch. i had mine for 16k miles and most people talked about the clutch going out between 8k-12k miles. mine was perfectly fine and i believe it really has to do with the driver.

Exactly and with a somewhat hefty matrix torque is great , or for get up and go in an x car.

For the most part it does but with that low of miles there has to be somewhat of a defect but the drive can certainly make it last alot longer or die alot quicker.

If it wasn't for the Frankenstien driving position in the Matrix it would be high on my list. Unfortunately, the steering wheel is mounted too close to the dash so you really have to reach to get the steering wheel (at least for me ... being 6'-7" tall I need the seat all the way back and it makes for quite the reach to get to the steering wheel).

If Toyota was to offer the Matrix with tilt AND telescoping steering wheel, it would be a lot better. That and improve the guages so they are easier to see in the daytime. They really get washed out under certain lighting conditions.
