Default Another NooB looking to try forced induction Need Adivise!!!

I am debating on doing a turbo of supercharger kit for my xb, im thinking about trying a turbo kit because it seems to have more adjustability. I know just about nothing about turbo's, so i want to know is it better to buy a kit, or to piece a kit together. Also want to know which one is cheaper. Please can someone list all the parts i will need. Thanks

In your case, I would say that it would be better for you to go with a kit.
I am running a Greddy kit with the intercooler upgrade. This would be the cheapest kit out there. HKS also has a kit for the XB, but with no intercooler.
If you want more power, TurboToyotas has a kit that will do the job, but you would need to purchase a piggyback or standalone seperately. ZPI has a kit complete kit as well, but I'm not sure if it's ready for shipping.

i wouldnt suggest getting a turbo if you have no clue about turbo maintanence or have no clue about forced induction in general which it seems to be the case after reading the first post. Boosting these cars can be very tricky especially if you dont know what your doing. Do a lot of research here, or online in general. Try to pick up some literature about boosting n/a vehicles and even better try to get your hands dirty on an already turbo'd or supercharged car such as a friends car and just get to learn the basics of the setup. I see lots of people just jumping into forced induction cause "its the thing to do" lately, or I like the "cool sound" a BOV makes. It makes me laugh cause these same kids are the ones you see stuck on the side of the road because there car stalled out and dont know the difference between a vacuum line and a fuel line, or what the intercooler really does, besides for looking all shiny and blinged out sitting behind there ebay fiberglass "Type R" front bumper.

the car is a totally different car when you boost it so in essence, its like having a totally different car. Have you had any prior experience with boosted cars at all? Also, keep in mind, a factory boosted car is completely different than converting a naturally aspirated car into a boosted car. A lot of things come into play such as engine management, cooling etc that need to be adressed more thoroughly than an already factory turbod car. Like I said, do a lot of research on here, there is plenty of good info

You are getting some good advice in this thread. If you are wanting to get something with the least hassle, I would look into a supercharger. You wont see as much power as you would with a turbo, but they are quite a bit more "plug and play" in our application. Greddy, Blitz and Power Enterprises all make good kits for the xB.

Here are some setup that we have dynoed:

Supercharger: Blitz & GReddy SC about 30 whp increase.
Power in the SC is already built-in to the system. You can change to a higher psi pulley (if available) for more power. Highly recommend a re-tune.

Zex: Stock xB w/ about 35 shots of NOS...in theory about 30-35 whp increase (assuming the bottle is in ideal operating temperature when sprayed).
Where did the ideal 35 shots came from? A stocker xB motor produce approximately 90 whp. Take this number multiply it by 40%, you get about 36. So, 35 is a safe number. Obviously, you can try a 50 shot and should still be ok.

GReddy turbo: 25 whp increase @ 4 psi.
Obviously, with a turbo setup, you can always increase the boost for more power.

So, as you can see, the safe number seems to hover around 30-35 whp increase.
Hope this help.

Just installed the Greddy S/C.

VERY plug n play.

6 hours install time. (heard up to 8, as little as 3)

Still need to tune, but happy with user friendliness......
