The fall of GM?!
GM to cut 30,000 jobs and close 9 plants by 2008!

Looks like a move GM should have done a long time ago. Wonder if any of their brands will be discontinued? Buick can go :D

what i heard from a fellow Toyota enthusiast about what will happen if GM falls, he said that every car company will start raising their car taxes. so if you buy a new car, it will cost couple of thousands more.

But Buick wants to be considered the American Lexus. I was reading an article in Automobile Magazine about this, said they targeted Lexus, hit Cadillac instead. Either way, their cars are getting better and better.
GM is not going anywhere. Back in the 1970s Chrysler got bailed out by the government to keep them from going under.
Too many jobs on the line here and I don't think people would accept having GM bought by Toyota. If Toyota was interested.
It is difficult to imagine how the country's largest manufacturing company, with a century of history under it's belt, could SO misread it's market that it is in this much trouble at a time when some other companies in the same market are actually having record years. *cough*cough*toyota*cough*
Sad.
Sad.

The underlying problem is not GM and Quality per-se. I feel if they could break the grip the UAW has on the whole US auto industry, the industry as a whole would be much better off. I deliver to these plants and all you ever see are lazy workers draggin their butts. They don't have to work hard... they are in the UAW. Very Sad.
GM also has to start building vehicles that people actually want. Not what they think we want.
Oh Tomas, BTW You make a very good point also
They ARE in the very same market as you-know-who and you-know-who never had to resort to cut throat pricing either. WTF were they
thinking when they decided to sell their product at a loss.
