Default tC vs new Civic SI?

Pricing for the SI came out. $19990/$22000 with navi.

Now I wonder if I should get a new car

tC: 160/163
SI: 197/139 (what, 139 tq? that's one of the things I LOVE the most about the tC)

tC: 5spd
SI: 6spd (I'd pay to get a 6spd in the tC -- the 5spd just ain't cutting it with this gearing)

tC: no limited slip differential (hello wheelspin and torque steer!)
SI: limited slip (no torque steer... no torque )

tc: 22/29 (regular)
SI: 23/32 (premium)

tC: no nav available
SI: Nav available

tC: ok stock stereo
SI: "good" stock with sub/MP3/WMA (who knows haven't heard it)

tC: OTD I paid $17100
SI: Prolly $22000 ($5k difference)

my tC is holding its value like a champ, but I really hate the Toyota dealership and their service department. They are HORRIBLE. The Honda dealer near me is pretty crappy though too (spoiled by the lexus and infiniti dealers I go/went to with my wife's car I guess).

Unfortunately my particular situation says I can't get another coupe (baby on the way), but I can see a lot of people looking to move from the tC to the SI.

you need to add Si insurance rate

Personally I dont like the way the si looks. I like the back, but not the front. I dont like the stock wheels either. Does it come standard with alot of things? Is it really 5 k difference?

Id like to see a new SI go out the door for under 20k......Id expect most of the basic ones to be like 21k or more, thats like a 4k difference, thats a LOT, you can get into a WRX wagon almost for that!

You've got to be kidding me if you would rather drive a wrx... those are fugly...

The main difference $$ wise is more HP (less torque), 6 speed, limited slip, more speakers, satellite radio, nav, nicer seats.

Without nav its a $3k diff, with a $5k diff. Worth it? I dunno.

Why is the SI so talked about on this forum? Or I should say why is everyone afraid of the competition so much?

Agreed, but the WRX is like the fat chick or a moped fun to ride until your buddies see you with it.

I don't think that anyone's worried. I think its more that we're car nuts and like to talk about upgrading all the time

It's not like discussions of women stopped when you got a girlfriend or a wife LOL.

I've got to agree with the guy, the WRX is fugly. Especially the new one with that lame new front end. Looks like a toilet seat. But I do like the engine and AWD system in the WRX.

The tC comes with a lot of nice standard features. And I would have to hear the civics stock system to believe it is really any better. With a sub the stock tC system really does hold its own as far as stock goes, especially if you set it up correctly. The civic has mp3, the tC has it too... no wma... but I would have no use for it. Navi can be purchased fairly reasonably. And IMO the new si is boring and ugly.. but these are just my thoughts. It is a bit faster and has an LSD, but it is not THAT much faster.

If you main concernes are navi and the extra audio formats, go spen $1400 on an eclipse unit and have DVD, Navi and all the audio formats. It will be nicer all the way around.

The only other advantage I see with the SI (other than being a little faster) is the LSD and tranny. I would be more impressed if it had a good amount of torque.

But, it is a good car, so it is really up to what is more important to you.

i could be wrong but i believe that the si will give a good spanking to any stock or supercharged tc out there right now.

^lol

Well my .02. No ragging me just my opinion and I am not right and neither is anyone else because its all opinion.

I lved the 2000 SI look so now I dont like the new SI. Not for me.

But yes stock the SI is better equiped but more expensive so deffinetly a trade off. I think a S/C tC will take the SI.

I wish the tC had the LSD and 6 speed. hmm...all I can think of right now.

Work with a guy with an 05 SI. Says he wants to trade it on an 06 after he gets back. But we will see. I will have to ask for a race before he gets rid of the 05.

JMHO

Considering the SC gives the tC as much WHP as the SI has BHP that is not the case. Yes, it will beat a stock tC, but not by much. It has low torque and weighs almost exactly the same.

SI: 0-60 in 7.2 sec, 1/4 in 15.1
tC: 0-60 in 7.5 sec, 1/4 in 15.6

So the SI will beat the tC stock.. but a supercharged tC will take it easilly

yeah, cause that 2877 lb SI is SOOO much lighter than our 2905 lb tC.... that 28 lbs they saved just makes it a rocket

Listen, its a cool car (except for looks IMO), but you have YOUR facts all wrong. read my above post before being so harsh on people. Sure it has 197 HP... WAAAAY up there in the band due to the crappy torque number. Did you miss all the dynos showing the 197 WHP with the sC???? Thats at the wheels while the SI has the same number at the CRANK.

No one was bashing the SI, but I think it is you who needs to rethink your ideas about the SC against the stock SI.

it was a joke....haha remember...im stating my opinion to...especially to the ppl that start up these topics that say tC vs ?? ....in which usually the tC is up against something not even in its class...face it...our cars are not that great...ive gotten beaten by all my friends cars including a 2002 si, a mini cooper S, sentra SE-R, lancer OZ rally....our cars engine and weight distribution could have been alot better esp..when paid around the 20's.
