Is it just me...

It's just very expensive for the modded guys.. You pretty much have to max out the mods in a particular class to be REALLY competitive in that group... The stock classes are definitley the easiest to do this, but hey, nothing wrong with that.
I just love people bringing heavily modded V8's and literally falling off the track because they can't keep the power in check.
The nationals thing is a tempting offer, but I don't think the TC is the car to use to win STS... and that's the class i'm sorta building for... I don't need to win them all, I just want to kick enough butt to drive home happy.
Stock class is an easy way of keeping your racing budget in check, but there are several things I would like to do to the tC for everyday use that I can't because of the rules. I also figure 2 years from now I will be really burned out on changing tires at every event that I attend.
STS is sounding pretty good. :D But I am going to Nationals once maybe twice then I'll move on. By then you should have the tC sorted out pretty well for STS so I'll be bugging you for tuning tips.

So far here's what I got- and I"m sure it'll change when I finally start putting suspension mods on it. This is good reminders for the old guys, and great advice for the noobs.
1) Brake in a straight line. Seriously. It'll understeer like hell. No matter how good they are, if your tires are 100% focused on turning, they won't accelerate. If you're 100% on braking, it wont turn.
Think of the events individually... Brake.. THEN turn... THEN gas.
2) 2nd gear is a lot shorter than you think, and 160ish torque is a LOT to manage coming out of a turn with FWD. Be nice to the throttle. Spinning the tires on just acceleration is dumb.
3) Think of it as "squeezing" the throttle and "squeezing" the brake. Shoot for smoothness. My last run I always think is the worst, and I end up chopping off 2 full seconds. Twitchy is always bad.
4) Upgrading wheel size helped out the turning, but don't make my mistake and get crappy tires at first.
5) Pick a class, and tune for it. Bring every parameter to the limit. If it allows a particular mod, then you should consider doing it, if your budget allows.
-I'd not worry about power mods in the tC. I did them for daily driving fun, but it's almost too much for those short-distance sprints. The tC's power weakness is extreme top end, but holy hell does the midrange rock.

i rather see more threads like this.
it's the much safer/mature way of racing.
keep it ina closed ourse, not the roads, where if ____ happens, and can affect other people.
p.s. that tC on 3 wheels, man that's crazy, nice pic.

You guys might also check out NASA I used to run with them a while back I love road courses (Sears Point - Laguna Seca) but they also do auto-x and have chapters all over.. a day at Sears Point was like $160 and you had an instructor that would ride along or do cat and mouse to show you the right lines during the HPDE events (high performance driving education) also you had 4 20min track sessions with a download after each one ..pretty fun! Like mentioned before once you do track events you will be addicted!

When I worked at an indoor kart track here I always explained gas/brake and steering inputs with a simple visual. Imagine a rope connecting your steering wheel to your pedals. When your steering wheel is centered, the gas or brake pedal can be put all the way down. As you dial in steering, the rope will pull the pedal up. More steering angle, less pedal.
I don't have my rope-steering wheel-pedal thing so here's a pic to illustrate:
That's always helped me out. It's easier for me than thinking
100% gas, 0% steering
80% gas, 20% steering ect.
