As far as the whole Rythm vs. the world arguement: Gadson started on the street, and had to give it up to get sponsored. NASCAR FOR SURE started on the street, not only that, the OG racers were running from the cops (on the street) before the NASCAR started. Look up Bootlegging, esp the southern and Apalatian (sp!, the mountain range in the eastern US, Virginia) Now go back and look for all the times I've stuck up for Rythm. I'll give you a hint, when you find the other one, you've seen all of them. I don't like the guy, but he's right. in America, pro racing originated on the streets...but back then it was mostly dirt roads.
Oh, BTW Drifting and Time Attacks are MOTORSPORTS. Drifting is not a race, it just started in them....on the streets.
YES MA'AM...ILL GET RIGHT ON THAT! As for now i would prefer not to wait in the two hour lines at the drag strips.

P.S. Excellent job on deciphering my name, UR SO CLEVER!
WTF dude? What's with the hostility? All I said was take it to the track, then you'd have something to REALLY brag about.* If you don't want to wait at the strip, would you rather take half a day off work and wait for more than 2 hrs at traffic court if you get a ticket?
P.S.
the "M" next to my age, means "Male" not "Ma'am." WTF, I make a comment about NOT STREET RACING and that makes me female? If I said don't fight everyone that insults you, what would you call me? Big stupid doo doo head? Grow up man, what are you in High School?

*I beat a last gen M3 on the freeway with someone in my car. Doesn't mean **** tho, I would have no chance on a drag strip, at a road course.
I WAS JK!!!!! Geez...just pokin at the topic...and no im not still in HS, already have a bachelors degree going for masters...so CALM DOWN, just playin around!

P.S. why did you feel the need to spell out my name?
Alright, cool, If you got no prob with me, I got no prob with you.
Dunno why I spelled it out.
Nope, no problem...why would i, i dont even know ya!

I dont condone street racing, but then again it does put the food on the table for our beloved police forces!

Especially in your area since they are installing all the cameras in the future. Expect to raise 90 Million in speeding tickets.

Let me first say, I don't neccesarily condone street racing. However, I do believe that most people demonize it out of ignorance, made up statistics, and the need to make up an excuse after a loss. Ex: Turbo tC beats an Sti, automatic response = "Well if we were on a track..." You weren't. So either accept the loss, or stop racing people on the street.

Dictionary.com:
sport /spɔrt, spoʊrt/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[spawrt, spohrt] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun 1. an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.

com·pe·ti·tion /ˌkɒmpɪˈtɪʃən/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[kom-pi-tish-uhn] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun 1. the act of competing; rivalry for supremacy, a prize, etc.: The competition between the two teams was bitter.
2. a contest for some prize, honor, or advantage: Both girls entered the competition.
3. the rivalry offered by a competitor: The small merchant gets powerful competition from the chain stores.

Street racing definitely seems like a sport from the definition's standpoint.

Here's some info I've posted in several threads off a similar topic. It's always great to have FACTS that support your argument. Especially when they come from the FBI:

In 2001, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that police listed street racing as a factor in 135 fatal crashes. The total was up from 72 street-racing-related fatalities reported in 2000

This past year, 2,600 deaths were caused by cell phone use while driving...

There were 16,885 alcohol-related fatalities in 2005 – 39 percent of the total traffic fatalities for the year.

Total Motor Vehicle fatalities in 2005 - 43,443

Penalties for Street Racing

You can be arrested and have your car impounded for 30 days.

If convicted of street racing or aiding and abetting a street race, you can be imprisoned for up to three months and fined up to $1,000. Spectators are subject to penalties as well.

Your driver's license can be revoked.

Your car insurance may be cancelled or the rates dramatically increased.

Cars in and around illegal street races are often issued equipment violations

Penalties for Drunk Driving

Suspended license

Car confiscated after 3RD offence.

AA Meetings

Jail time

Penalties for Driving and using a cell phone

None (yet)

So basically, everyone needs to get off of their high horses. the amount of deaths due to street racing is incredibly minor when compared to that off cell phone use. Yes, all of you that talk while you drive are statistically worse than any street racer. Doesn't matter if you use a bluetooth either, countless studies have shown that it's not holding the phone that causes accidents, it's the act of being in a conversation while driving.

When compared to talking on a cell, street racing doesn't even cause 6% of the total deaths that result from cell phone usage. When compared to drunk driving, street racing doesn't even cause 1% of the total deaths that result from drunk driving. In relation to the total combined automotive deaths of 2005, street racing accounts for 0.3%! In fact, there are more deaths due to smog in the US than street racing! So if you deleted your cats, have a straight pipe, or have headers, you're a killer too...

There are far more deaths due to drunk driving, despite the penalties being far less. Your car can be impounded on your first street racing offense, but if it's a DUI it's the THIRD offense.

LOL. Even if that hypothetical question did happen, do you really believe the number of DEATHS due to street racing would jump from 0.3% of the nation's total to even 3%? Highly unlikely.

Some more interesting statistics:

Lightning accounted for 46 deaths in the U.S. in 2004. That's only a 35% difference from deaths from street racing.

According the United States Census Bureau, there are 303,306,272 people in the United States. Street racing = 135 deaths. You have nearly a 1 in 30,000 chance of dying due to street racing...
YMMV...

I find it hard to believe that not holding the phone doesn't make a difference. Using one hand to hold a cell, and the other hand to steer, shift, use turn signals....blah blah blah, not to mention the fact that holding some thing to your ear makes it real damn hard to look to that side.

I thought so too. I work for AT&T and that's the angle I use to sell Bluetooths to people lol. But there are so many studies, reports, and tests that show the opposite. Take your pick:

it's too bad they pick idiots for those studies, people that care more about the convo that can wait till they get to where they're going than making sure they don't hit the jackhole in front of them.

Again, that's exactly why I never talk on my cell phone while driving.

That's the thing, being in a conversation automatically distracts you. It's just not possible to do both effectively. Something's gotta give.

I can say hands down I've had more close calls with people on cell phones than those punks weaving in and out of traffic.
