Default I thought buying a scion was supposed to be easy...

So my wife and I were looking for a roomy, fuel efficient car that would carry our family of three and not use as much gas as my pickup or her neon. We both had always liked the xB and we decided to get one this month. Our local dealer (DeLuca Toyota/Scion) in Ocala had a new '06 TCM Auto on the lot when we pulled up. The salesman walked out and small talked us for a bit, then I asked him about accessories. I told him I wanted the ipod head unit and cruise control installed. He said that was no problem. I asked if the 260 and 350 for the accessories included installation or if there were any additional charges involved. The salesman walked inside and checked then came back and told me that the prices included instalation, so it would be 260 for ipod head unit and 350 for cruise control. We did the deal with those accesories included in the price, and I was given a "we owe" form for those two accessories, and signed the contract that included those accessories in the price. Yay!

So monday rolls around and I call to set up an appointment for the install. The salesman tells me that there is a problem with the radio. He says the factory will not let them receive credit for my stock headunit because it is now used, and that I am going to have to front another 200-300 dollars if I want the ipod headunit. After telling him I'm not paying anything extra and that he will deliver the accessories outlined in the contract for the price in the contract,he tells me I have three options:
1. bring the xB back and undo the deal
2.pay the extra money
3. Keep the stock stereo.

After a few deep breaths to get my heartbeat below Mach3, I told him that was unacceptable, and that I expected to get what I paid for.

I hung up with him and called scion corporate, who was very understanding and told me they would look into it. Within an hour I received a call from the sales manager at the dealer stating that they would take care of everything. Shortly thereafter a service manager called to set up an appointment for the next monday. Fast forward a few days and everything is installed and appears to be working ok. The ipod function is pretty cool, and I can't live without cruise control!

Another thumbs down for the dealer is that they forgot to re-plug in my AUX port connector when installing the ipod connector, so instead of gong back to the dealer I just removed the center console per directions on this site and plugged it in myself.

Bottom line: don't buy from DeLuca toyota. Same old sales tactics. Do, however, call Scion Corporate if you have a problem with a dealer. Thanks again y'all.

This is more of how Scion Customer Service Rocks and compensates for the idiocy of dealers sometimes...

That's really sad what they tried to pull, but really another good example of how scion corp helps out to make things right.

Glad your all set and hope you're happy as can be with your new Scion!

The Salespersons mistake was that the $260 for the radio is only from the factory installed since you get a core charge for the stock unit. If you try to have it installed after the fact, you have to pay the parts price for the radio without the factory radio credit, which is about $600.

It is good that they stood up for it and sucked up the loss though. That is the right way to do it since they made the mistake. They never should have made a huge issue about it. In fact, if they would have told you that they made the mistake and that they were covering it for you at no charge, You likely would be singing thier praises on this website instead of blasting them telling everyone they suck! Would have cost them the same money to fix it and would have had a happy referring customer vs. a ____ed negative campaign about them online.

Some people get customer service and some people don't.

bdon,

Did you look up the dealers website for their PURE PRICE to install the ipod stereo at the dealer? That is the dealers installed price, each dealer of course decides on their price and we have to list that price. That same price has to be listed somewhere on the showroom. In addition, we have to put a copy of our pricing in each deal.

Scion allows us to get credit for that radio, and customers do understand pure pricing.

yea the dealer's website had the ipod headunit listed at $260, and the salesman said that included installation charges. He went so far as to check with someone else in the office before confirming that the price did indeed include installation charges. Of course as far as I know that "someone" could've just been one of the RAV4's on display lol.

Some salesman provide good customer service, even though all customers deserve it.

well, the website has to indicate if installtion is extra, the format was designed to include installation, unless otherwise noted. In addition, that is pretty much what every other dealer charges, within $30.

We can get credit for the head unit, which is behind the scenes, but should not really matter to you the customer when you are quoted a installed price.

Make sure you report them to Scion, this way they will be audited and lose allocations when Scion finds discrepencies in what they have charged their customers.

Can I bring my newly uninstalled head unit in to the dealership for credit on another accessory?

It's unfortunate that you ran into a rank novice instead of a pro who could have explained everything before the deal was rung up.

There are 3 things that cost loads more at the dealer compared to the port price:

-Wheels
-Ground effects
-iPod

Everyone of my customers know this going in.

its the fact that the deal was signed, then three days later he called and refused to honor the signed contract that really ____ed me off. They finally did the right thing, its just a shame that Scion corporate had to be called to make them do it.

What is going on with some dealers?? They do not know the customers run the show now?? Customers know more about buying cars today than many sales reps.

Well Central FL Toyota and Toyota of Orlando seem to be excellent , now in this area, and based on the number of negative posts about sales reps AND management, David Maus Toyota seems to be the worst one in Florida. I don't know.

I am also glad you got what you wanted

Now post some pics to see the ride
