Default First synthetic oil experience

First of all, if you are thinking about changing your own oil you should eighter:

1. Use a ramp with bunch of 2x4 so you wont scrape your bumper
OR Get a better ramp with less grade
OR Use floorjack and jack stands
2. To losen the filter use that plastic socket that is made exactly for the oil filter. There is not enough room to play with other types of grip. (socket that will fit on the butt of the filter and use a rachet to losen or tighten).
3. Four quarts is what you need

When I drive it... dangggg wowwwwwwwwwwww. I used mobil 1 full synthetic 5w30. Next time Ill get amsoil. Checker did not sell Amsoil. Anyway, it was like driving a new car. I can feel better response with the throttle and have no doubt my tc has better acceleration now. Ill never go back to regular or synthetic blend oil. Beside, I dont trust those guys changing my oil anyway.

I with you on that one.

Too easy NOT to do it yourself, although Im sticking with non-syn Castrol every 2-3K.

Default Syn oil

Just dont forget to grease the chassis, some people who change their own oil forget to do this and after a while it will make a difference. What is amsoil?

Happy New Year

I was thinking about replacing every freaking stock liquid in the car from the oil to the window washer fluid.

If you have problem shifting then sure, change the tranny fluid to synthetic, it might help. Changing engine oil to synthetic will increase HP on you wheels.

If you own it, do it. If its just a lease, than it dont matter. Be careful with the brake fluid as you do not want any air in the line. Same with PS.

I am in the process of replacing my manual tranny fluid here once i get off my lazy ___ and do it. I have under 2000 miles and have alread done 2 oil changes.

Hey what is the normal mileage intervals for "synthetic" oil changes? My 3 series has an indicator saying i dont have to get an oil change for another 13,000 miles. Isnt that too long of a time to wait for changing the oil? (oh, i just got the 3 series by the way so im not familiar with synthetic oils)

The Mobil One I'm using is rated at 15,000 miles. I still change every 5k.
You need to wait until your first scheduled oil change to switch to synthetic.
It is just too slippery and won't let the engine break in properly, or so I'm told.
My mechanic Brother-in-law also told me that once you change to synthetic,
you can't go back to regular oil. And no, I don't know why. One of my club
mates is switching to Lucas Synthetic as he won a case of it at NOPI. He
was chosen as the Lucas Oil favorite Scion. Very good and Very expensive
oil.

normal should be between 3500-4500/5k on out tc's i dont know why you guys would change your oil so much thats not good. i would keep ateast 3500 interval. even if your using synthetic which i use alot on my old sohc 95 civic motor.. it ran 130k miles NOT ONE PROBLEM.. and it was quick for what it was.. and thats all 130k me miles.. original owner.

if you have any questions i would go to your tc manual and check when the proper mileage for your oil should be changed.. but anyere from what i mentioned above is fine.. even though i still only have 2k miles on mines.. i plan on going to 10w40 or 5x30 soon synthetic blend.

How could keeping your engine as clean as possible not be good?

I did my previous trucks (64 GMC) oil every 3K and it still runs and has close to 300K miles on it. It only uses less than a quart between oil changes.

As far as oil changes go, im of the opinion that more is better.

3500 is way too frequent for a full synthetic. Synthetic is pretty pricy. Im gonna do it every 7500 miles eventhouhg they suggest way more than 7500.

He meant to use your finger and lube the bottom surface of the oil filter where it touches the engine so you will seal it very well. Lube it with the engine oil not with grease.

I dunno, I think he was talking about actually lubing all the usual chassis/etc grease points you used to find on older cars. There are grease nipples all over the place on my '87 Jeep, but modern unibody cars are generally greaseless.

As for oil, I'm running Mobil 1 as well and will be maintaining Scion's recommended 5k mile intervals (in part for warranty reasons, and in part because even synthetic oil is not immune to breakdown or contamination -- better to change it unnecessarily than not often enough).

Nice signature Max! I guess im not old enough to know about those grease points. I thought only heavy machinery have those (catepillars). Anyway, if you get mini cooper, bmw, mercedez, they all do oil change 10000+ with synthetic. So I think me doing it every 7500 will be good enough.
