Hi there, my girlfriend has a 2007 tC and it started making a noise tonight. The noise changes pitch with RPM, and I can't quite pin where it's coming from. It doesn't sound like a belt. I'm read that some people have had water pumps go out on these cars. I'm hoping someone can help me diagnose the problem.

power steering? does it get louder/or change when turning the wheel at idle?

 

Yeah, it changes pitch as you rotate the wheel, but the power steering itself feels fine. I checked the reservoir and it has fluid.
