Then why would the leading vehicle manufacturers state which gas they recommend and which they do not? I go top tier every time.

And for the mileage thing... the only good way of keeping track of your mileage is to record total mileage by total gallons consumed over several fillups without missing any of the gas used. more data = more precise and reliable. I keep a spreadsheet.
Please show me an example of this. My guess would be that if this is true it is because certain manufacturers are paid to say this by the oil companies in question. It's just like Toyota telling you to only change your oil and filter with "genuine toyota parts". They're saying that because they want your money.

All of the oil companies put their oil into the same pipelines. They all take it back out from the same pipelines. This is fact.

Aiight, fair enough. I'll give you that maybe they're doing more to it after pulling it from the pipe than I thought. But they do get the base fuel from the same pipelines.

Well, the gasoline itself is probably the same but they do use different additivies in varying quantities so that will definitey make a difference.

I try not to use Citgo. I read an article in the newspaper saying somthing like 30% of people that used Citgo gasoline had to change their fuel injectors because they were getting dirty or somthing like that. I read it a while ago so I don't remember exactley what it said but basically Citgo's gas isn't very clean or good for you'r car. We don't have Chevron were I live But I usually use Shell or Mobil.

the only way to get an accurate MPG reading is to average over several fillings. One filling is inaccurate because the pump doesn't always click off at exactly the same point. the argument against overfilling is that gas gets hot and expands as you drive, tho I can't imagine it expands faster than it gets used up.
I drove a Toyota Echo 285,000 miles mostly on off-brand gas from Independant station. never developed any problems.

Manufacturers reccommend that the tank be filled to the "click" as overfilling will damage the the fuel system, primarily the charcol cannister in the vapor recoverty system. Also if the pump has a recovery system, fuel you just paid for can be sucked back into the stations recovery system. There are alot of articles on this if you Google "overfilling gas tank."
