Default Maintenance Required @ 23K!!

So check it, I have an 05 XB. Woke up the other morning, started my car, and the damn maintenance required light started blinking, then it stopped. This persisted over the next couple of weeks, and I figured I would get it into my dealership as soon as I had time (still dont have time). Then driving down the freeway 2 days ago, the light just comes on, and has stayed on ever since. I lost my manual somewhere, and I am almost sure that it gives you a general idea of the severity of each light.

Has anyone else had the light around the same mileage? I know when I worked at Honda, the light was often times just a warning for your first major maintenance. And again, since I dont have my manual here, I dont know when my first major is. It it 20K? 30K?

If anyone else has had this same series of check engine lights, or knows off the top of their head what it is, let me know! I am just hoping it's not from my cold air (I checked all vacuum lines n whatnot, and everything seems fine) I know it's not a big deal to take it off and put the stock one back on, then take it in for service, but still...I'm a busy man!

Thanks in advance everyone!

It will be at a specific interval from the last time it was reset.

The default is 5k miles. So it would be 5, 10, 15, 20k, etc. When the light comes on, it does just what you said, it blinks for a while (i think 500 miles before the interval) and then when it hits that required interval it just stays on.

Thing is the interval can be changed to whatever you want (1k, 2k, 3k, etc) - so either your interval was changed or it was last reset at about 18k miles.

Oh and the Maint Req light is totally separate from the CEL, which you also mention in the post. The Maint Req just tells you that you should get an oil change, the CEL means there's likely a problem.

anyone know how to reset the light without taking it into the dealer? I used to do it at honda on the older models, back in the ol mechanical days with the car key in slot located on the speedo...but I cant find any slots to shove my thingy into...I am guessing it's a plug any play matter...

It's in the tech section the above is the link. Maint Req'd light is for maintenance, to keep up wth warranties and maintenance like oil changes tire rotations and such. Nothing big about it at all. Most of the Toyotas now come with this light. It's easy to reset and doesn't hurt anything unless you are going really long intervals without doing things like changing the oil.

no worries, I know how it is to be worried about the new car. At least it wasn't a big problem. . .hee hee
